I’ve been scratching my head trying to figure out this one

Cic website states that all applicants are automatically considered for 10 year multiple entry visa - is this correct or am I reading this wrong ?

My in-laws and unmarried sister in law are due to visit us but the dates they will stay are not set in stone ( duration will obviously be less than 6 months)

I’m worried that if we state 1 month and define dates, will visa come for only that one month ? What if their plans are outside the 1 month then .

If I specify 6 months and it’s approved for exact those 6 months - what if travel dates shift a bit ?

I have Thomas cook reps saying that yes visa can be approved for duration of 1 month as well provided on dates provided

This isn’t making proper sense to me but absence of anything concrete on google I’m coming here for help

Please help

Multiple entry visa
While valid, a multiple entry visa will let you travel to Canada for six months at a time as many times as you want. It will be valid for up to 10 years or one month before your passport expires, whichever is shorter.

The keywords in the IRCC link are 'up to' i.e. TRV validity will vary for each application + TRV validity is not for a full 10 years + there is no automatic consideration for this maximum validity (BTW maximum validity is until passport validity).

To answer your previous post:
1. Stating visits of 6 months or flexible duration or no firm travel plans = Potential overstayer + no strong ties to their home country.

2. TRV validity can be very short in some cases, even shorter than 6 months.

3. TRV validity depends on the assessment made by the visa officer for each application

4. If their travel plans change, they can visit anytime as long as their TRVs are valid
