If he is financially well settled then he needs to show all the funds to support your studies. If tuition is $54k and you need at least $30k per year (low) for living expenses that is $84k. At this point, tuition is not even covered. He is well short of showing that you can afford your studies. If showing $45k then where will the other $40k come from? Future income doesn’t count.

Thanks Naturgrl for explaining - it helps others to understand as well.

But, isn't the cost of living covered under the GIC?

I got rejected for this one and only reason, both times. I mentioned "country of residence" as it was a part of this rejection, I'm gonna post it here as well
  • I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status in your country of residence
You may try the following:
Financial Funds :

1. Salary certificate of parent(s).
2. Bank statement of the last 4 months showing the amount : first year tuition + $10000
3. Important : Affidavit : letter of financial support from parent(s)
4.Any house deeds or business owned
5. If someone paying other than parents , affidavit of financial support.

SOP : statement of purpose or LOR : letter of explanation
if there is any thing you have to support your application , information like why you chose Canada for studying or to explain the source of funds that were deposited into the account or specifying some ties to your home country to show that you will leave Canada after finishing studying.
