I applied and admitted for one year postgraduate program Big data analytics in Georgian College located at Barrie, Onatrio Canada but my application got rejected which i applied on 13th july 2022 and refusal on 9th sep 2022 stating only reason:
" Given your previous education and/ or employment history, I am not satisfied that the motivation to pursue this particular program at this point in time in Canada is reasonable."

Education Background:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Information Technology (Sept. 2013 - Nov 2017).
Employment History:
  • Junior Back-End Developer(Intern) (June 2017 - November 2017).
  • Back-End Developer/Database Manager (January 2018 - July 2019).
  • Full Stack Developer/Data Analyst (Machine Learning) Associate (September 2020 - Present).
I suspect for the visa refusal main reason are
  • Starting my carrer with developer background and working right now as a FullStack developer/data analyst,
  • Also the pivotal point on my carrer where i developed interest on data analytics from past two years with fullstack development is on my skillset which i didn't explain on my SOP properly.

What can i do to convince the visa officer as i plan to reapply with a letter of explanation? What are my chances on getting the study permit grant? You thoughts and feedback might be very helpful

Have you considered a (2 year) Master's program in Big Data Analytics/Data Science? Barrie, while considerably close to the Greater Toronto Area (give or take, 100 km, 2 hours) isn't bursting with companies looking to hire for technical roles, last time I checked.

Toronto (University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University) Kitchener-Waterloo Region ( University of Waterloo), Guelph (University of Guelph), Ottawa (Carleton University, and University of Ottawa) all have good Big Data and/or analytics related programs.

If you're choosing Georgian College in Barrie, for low tuition reasons, then I'm afraid I cannot say anything to change your mind. Order GCMS notes before proceeding to re-apply, so you know what the IRCC officer was thinking. Good luck.

Hi there thank you for the feedback. I have 68.54% without any backlogs in Bachelor's which i think is not applicable to get into master’s program. Since i am newbie in data analytics with little less than 2 years of experience in data analysis and as full stack development is my previous field, i want to purse Big Data analytics since the company i am currently hired by is dealing with huge volumes of raw data recently and wants someone to achieve level of understanding on Big data or large volume of data for more concise and accurate results and documentation of data . I think one year study is enough to achieve that as i plan to come back to my home country after completion of the course. Can i show this as a motivation for my purposed study

I think the visa officer feels that your program is redundant because you're already a data analyst. There are also big data analytics courses in your home country, so why Canada? You probably need to provide a stronger argument to justify studying in Canada.

Yes i feel that too..since i have approximately 2 years of experience in in data analytics( a newbie) and the company i am currently employed by needs me to achieve level of understanding on big data or huge volume of raw data of the project currently we are working on which i have mentioned in my SOP as i am component on handling small amount of data as well as maintaining, manipulation ,documentating and viusalization of the respective huge data. Plus my home country institutions doesnot provide such advanced course. I am currently working on cover letter or letter of explanation where i will be countering the visa officer decision with specific subjects that i receive from purposed course which will ultimately strengthen my professional data analytics career

Agree that the issue is likely the level of course and the fact that OP has already spent 2 years working in data analytics. Would be very hard to justify coming to Canada unless pursuing a more advanced degree like a masters.

Have you reached out to any universities or is it your assumption that you would not qualify for a Master's degree?

No i haven't... its just my online research
It's best to reach out to universities directly to know if you are eligible for their courses. Some of them would have 1:1 to help you on the application process and to put your best foot forward. If masters is still within your goal, best not to assume that you won't get admitted!

As others have advised, Masters is a better option. But if you decide to stick with a post graduate certificate, emphasize that your skills and knowledge are basic while explaining how the courses in your program will be helpful.

You may also get a letter from your employer to support your argument. Good luck!

Yeah ... being a full stack developer i think my data analytics skill needs to be refined and one year pg is enough to do that ... yes i will reach out to my employer as you suggested. Thanks!!

Hi guys update on my issue ..By the grace of god. I have received my passport with the study visa stamp on April 05, indicating that my study permit is approved. However i have not received any information regarding my Port of Entry which is essential for to enter Canada.
I am getting concerned about the delay in receiving my POE as my class starts from May 08 as i am travelling to canada on May 04. I have raised webform and sent email to the immigration but i haven't received any response from ircc. My last message on GCkey account was original PPR request on Feb 21.

What can i do ??
