Good day,

just making sure about something, do all permanent resident applications for US citizens get processed in the Ottawa VO ?
I received my SA yesterday and it didnt specify which visa office it was going to, for context, I am a PR sponsoring my wife (American citizen) outland.

thank you

I think historically they've gone through New York, but lately it seems a lot of them are going through Ottawa? It could also start in Ottawa and bounce to New York, depending. We applied in November, and ours is at Ottawa as well (my husband is from Connecticut).

Need to distinguish between 'processing' (the bulk of the work like background checks and the actual approval) and the issuance of the physical visa/COPR.

Last I saw: spousal spnsorship processed in Canada eg Otttawa for US citizens (but can be anywhere if IRCC decides for any reason, and note that US permanent residents seem to be handled by citizenship, not residence), and any issuance could be done in New York or by post to Ottawa. (PHysical visas not needed for US citizens but physical COPR is still done and photos need to be sent).

All this can change of course.
