Hello,

As the title reads, I wish to pursue a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) at one of a handful of Canadian flight schools i'm currently looking at.

I have always been incredibly passionate about aviation, I got into flight school after graduating from college in 2006 however financial circumstances and the state of the industry at the time kept me out. I finally quit my job a year ago and have cleared all my pilot exams back here in India and I wish to quickly procure me my CPL and get back here to look for a job.

I'm 32y 6m now and the airlines here won't hire me after the age of 35 as a fresh-from-flight school candidate.
It would take about a year for me to get done with my flying and get back to India > give the Indian flight checks > convert my license to an Indian license > start looking for a job.

By this time, i'll be around 33-34 and would only leave me a small window to find a job, failing with my investment goes down the drain - something that I don't want to happen not just because of the monetary loss but, flying is all I ever wanted to do.

So, i've heard from folks that if I do a Flight Instructor Rating from Canada and if i'm able to work there as a Flight Instructor I can apply for a Canadian PR¿

Can someone please shed some light on this and how to go about it? It sounds like my only safety net incase if I don't find a job as a pilot in India in the short time I would have after I get my license I can go back to Canada (if I have a Canadian PR) and keep flying.

I would greatly appreciate your help and advice.

Cheers :)

Your plan carries quite a bit of risk and definitely doesn't guarantee PR. It can be quite difficult to obtain a post graduate work permit after you finish flight school - and you need the PGWP to have any chance of being able to work as a flight instructor after you complete your studies and be able to qualify for PR.

So the short answer is that your plan might work and it might not. It's quite possible you may end up spending a lot of money to come here and end up with no work permit and no PR.

Hi
Am applying for a study permit.
I got accepted into a flight school in delta, Vancouver. The school does not need Ielts score but how do I state this in my SOP?
I have completed my bachelor's degree in April 2017. Am thinking to apply through online and do I have to submit my marks sheet of my bachelor's degree wen applying online?

Thank You for your honest reply, I appreciate it!

I'm a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University with about 9 years of work experience (mostly taking calls for US financial giants)

Look at it optimistically from my end, can you please elaborate on how can I make it happen?

On first glance, the biggest detractor I see is your Bachelor of Commerce and related experience. There is no correlation between your current education/experience and your intended studies. Playing devils advocate, why Canada vs. Singapore or Malaysian or even Indian to complete your training?

Apply to immigrate through Express Entry directly - it's quite possible you qualify now.

Agreed. Very low chance the study permit is going to be approved for you to come here and become a pilot. It's completely unrelated to your past education and experience.

Its completely unrelated because right after graduating, I straight away got into a flight school here in Mumbai.
My father lost his job when I was in ground school of my flight school and so I had to start working to support the house, and once I started working circumstances compelled me to stay there for as long as I did but its not what I wanted.

Despite your intentions or circumstances, IRCC is going to look at the relevancy of the application. These are going to be the thing that the VO will look at on your application and you'll need to have logical and practical responses for them. Being blunt, they don't really care about your passion or intent after grad. They want hard evidence and solid background, or a solid plan before they approve it. Look carefully at future prospects for the career in Canada......is there a need? Very good flight schools in Asia.....why not there? Why the change from commerce to aviation......don't tell them desires, give them hard facts.

Apply for GCMS notes and you will know exactly why you were refused .

I am pilot training in Canada .

If you have a degree or something it can be a reason of rejection .
To overcome that , get GCMS notes and see VO's comments .

If he thinks you are going for a different field of study , then you need to prove that you wanted to do flight training , but your degree was a backup or your degree like Electronics might help you later on etc .

PM me and I will guide you .
