I am currently a student in Canada doing my fall 2013 semester. I came here in winter 2013. I'm going to India by the end of December for 4 months. My visa and study permit expire on 31st march 2014. I wont be able to extend my TRV(Visa) before I go. I have to do it while I stay in India. Is that a good option? Did anyone do this before, and do they extend our visas if we apply from india for our extension.

I can extend my study permit for now, by requesting the immigration, but wont be able to extend my visa because I will be going to india before I would be able to apply for an extension. Is there any other alternative? How safe is it to apply for an extension from India?

It's not a good idea but it doesn't mean you won't get it. Processing time is expected to be bit longer and chances to get it extended from within Canada are pretty bright.

Although I couldn't understand what makes you say that you can't do it all before you leave for India. You said you have plans to leave by end of December. Study permit and TRV extension won't take more than 45 to 50 days over all (both TRV and study permit renewal). And you said you would spend 4 months in India and I think that could attract some attention at POE when you return.

Well lets wait for others to comment.

I normal procedure is to apply for an extension 90 days before it expires, and that would mean January next year. So I would still be in India. People at my university told me that it would be okay to apply for an extension from India as long as I have all the documents. I'm a little skeptical about it. Please advise me.
