Hi there. I have a simple question but pretty urgent. I live in Montreal and sent my inland spousal sponsorship application on November 11. I also included my OWP application in the package. My current visitor visa will expire at the end of November. Should I extend my visitor visa for another year or I do not need for the OWP application is one kind of visa extension? Thank you very much for your advice.

You should extend. I believe you still have to have a status before you get the OWP.
Thanks! I need to clarify if OWP is considered visa extension or not. If it is not, then I should extend my visitor visa. If it is, I think implied status is the legal status for me to stay before I get my OWP.

Yes, the OWP you submitted automatically gave you implied status, so really no need to extend visitor status.

However some people also apply for visitor status extension as well, just in case. If you don't apply for visitor status extension and if the OWP/Inland PR app is returned for any reason, you would be out of status. and would need to then apply for restoration of status as long as it was within 90 days of the visitor status expiring.

Hi, I applied for my visitors extension in July 2017 and still have not received any approval. Had sent them a message after it exceeded normal processing time and they only confirmed last week (Nov) that it's still under process. I'm in a common law relationship and my partner he's a Canadian. I had to wait to collect all the necessary documents (taken a few years due to limited communication with ex spouse and bitter divorce). Now that I have all the documents needed for inland spouse/common law application, I am going to submit it while waiting for my visitor extension to be approved. I have contacted CIC via the web form to inform them that I have paid all the fees plus OWP & WP and going to submit my application for the RP. I hope this works. I'm giving it a shot.

P.S My children are under care and control (main custody) of their father and won't be joining me in Canada do I still need to submit their passport and birth certificate copies?
