VISA Expired but have valid Work permit.Can i re-enter canada after visit in IN

Hi everyone,

I remember a discussion about this topic before but It seems rules have been changed and also I want to know the answer bases on present rules. I apologize for asking the question that was already answered.

My Canadian Visa is expired in Dec 2012. But I am having valid Work Permit which expires in September 2013. I am currently in India for work and I just wanted to know if I can travel back to Canada on my work permit. If I need to apply for visa, will I get a visa by showing up my WP (Asking this query bcoz I heard now-a-days they are giving visa for re-entry only if we have both Work Permit and Client Letter.. Is this true). Can you please help clarify and point me to the CIC link for this? I don't want to let go off this opportunity at work.

You need Visa before entering to Canada. No exceptions.

A Canadian work permit does not guarantee re-entry (most if not all of them clearly have this printed on them) you need either a VISA or a passport from a VISA-exempt country.

No you cannot re-enter Canada from India with WP. You will need to apply for a visa first.

Just apply for another Visa.. fill out application, send them copy of ur Workpermit and employee reference letter. you shud get it back within 2 months.

Same thing happened to me when I was in India last year. I went to VFS in India and applied for TRV and i got visa in two days. You just have to send your copy of work permit and pay stubs if you have them and your job offer letter in Canada if you have them.

The applicant in question is in India right now and he definitely requires a VISA to re-enter Canada.

Yes, I know that. My point is that he was giving incorrect information. He said there is no exception. I was correcting the incorrect information.

I'm an Indian Citizen..I entered using my WP, when I re-entered from US. I'm not trying to mis-guide her. I'm well aware of this case.

Again you are wrong. If the person is coming from the USA or Mexico and has a valid work or study permit They Do NOT need a visa.

Actually you are wrong also, a person with valid status in Canada who requires a TRV to enter Canada, may only visit the US and St. Pierre et Miquelon NOT MEXICO, as long as they return within their status in Canada.
