I'm having trouble uploading the requested documents on MyCIC for my study permit and canadian visa application.
Even though I am uploading small PDF files, it gives me an error saying it isn't the specified format, even though it IS a .pdf file as shown in the following picture:

ok, I can't post links... i. imgur. com/gWWjukC.jpg

I've tried uploading many of the documents (which are all in .pdf format and have less than 1MB size) and each and every one of them returned the same error to me, even though you can see it is a .pdf file in the picture.

Can someone help me? I need my permit before september!!

Did you look at the image? It shows my file name IN the print screen I took, not in the name of the link.
I've even used the site you said (smallpdf.com) to compress a 100KB pdf file and then tried uploading it, it still returns me the same error.
It makes no sense, I just upload a pdf file and it says it's not of an allowed format.

The error is as follows:

"Upload a File
Validation error: You have not completed the mandatory fields or you have not completed them correctly. Please make corrections where indicated.

Error Description: You have specified an incorrect file format for your attachment. Retry with another format. The following file formats are allowed: DOC; JPG; PDF; PNG; and TIFF.

File previously selected for upload- 1001880173A.pdf "

It makes no sense.

dude, ok i know that u were uploading .pdf

but try this, when uploading try to shorten the name of the file which u are uploading. and also check if the size of .pdf is more than 4 mb, then i won't upload. u will need to reduce that. if u can't reduce, i am willing to help u. reply me, i will tell u how to give me ur document, i will shorten it and give u back.

i can also try to upload ur document on my CIC to check the problem in uploading. I am going to apply paper based, but i have online account.

don't worry dude, you seems to be stressed.

Size is not a problem and I've compressed it aswell (like from 48KB to 9 KB).

I've now tried some other alternatives:
1. As you suggested, I shortened the name of the file.
2. I tried switching the extension from .pdf to .PDF.
3. I've tried uploading many different files (including some application forms I've downloaded from the same website).
4. As said, compressed some PDF files to be even smaller, even though I shouldn't have to.

None of these worked. The same error was displayed on my screen. It literally doesn't accept .PDF, should I try different formats or wait for a fix??
Or should I restart my application?
I don't have a solution for my problem so far, but I still need to gather a few documents, so for now I'm settled on waiting for a fix, but I'd really like to see this solved.

Good to see you managed to fix your problem. I will use my mom's notebook tomorrow to try and upload these files and report back here if it works.
Thanks for the help everyone.

there is a problem in your size reducing technique.

how are you reducing the size of pdf.

do u have adobe acrobat?
if yes, then go to file, then save as other, then reduced size pdf and then retain the existing button. (so that wouldn't alter the structure of pdf)

are u able to upload .jpg or .doc etc. then CIC is working and probably there is problem in your pdf creating/compressing software.

if u are using proxy or anything like that, then it may be possible than proxy isn't allowing the script required for uploading.

I'm not using proxy. And I tried both uncompressed and compressed versions of the said PDF files (because the uncompressed one wasn't too big anyway).
Including, as I said before, some PDFs that I have downloaded from MyCIC's own website (like application forms). And I'm not even the one who made any of those PDFs in the first place, they're all letters either sent to me online by UofT or my IES in my country.
And I haven't tried uploading JPG or DOC because I wouldn't expect to have to go through the hassle to change my PDF files into pictures (or text), but I'll try it if uploading from another computer doesn't work.
The problem, it seems, is it really isn't accepting .pdf as an acceptable format, although I have no idea why.

Edit: You did gave me a really nice idea meagan99! I decided to try to change my browser and try it again and after a few minutes I managed to upload it using Internet Explorer! Why didn't firefox work? I have no idea. But atleast my problem is now solved.

Thanks everyone for the really fast and helpful replies!
