Hi there!

My boyfriend and I have been together for about 2 years now, he’s Canadian and I’m Danish. Now we really want to live together but we’re both extremely confused about the process. Hopefully someone can help with some of these questions:

1. I have a working holiday visa and I’m going to Canada to try and work there for 6 months, and I will be staying with him and his family. Will I be able to apply for another visa after having a working holiday?

2. If we’re interested in applying for a common-law visa, does the six months I live with him and his family count? In my research, it looks like I’m allowed to stay in Canada on a tourist visa after my working holiday expires, so I would be able to achieve the full year of living together, I’m just not sure if it counts when I have to have an official address at home in Denmark? And does it even count when we live with his family? Obviously I wouldn’t be able to work anymore when that expires, but that’s fine!

3. When can we start the process? As soon as we’ve lived together for a year of can you start the process earlier?

4. I travelled Canada last year and got an extension of my travel visa so I could stay for a full year. Would I be able to get an extension again if this is necessary?

Sorry for all the questions, but it’s all super confusing!

1. You can apply to extend your stay as a visitor.

2. It counts when you live with his family.

3. Only when you've reached 365 days of continuous cohabitation in a marriage like relationship with no significant breaks.

4. No one can tell you if they will approve it or deny it, but it's an acceptable plan of action. My husband had multiple visitor extensions when he his work permits expired.
