I got the Canada student visa in 2018 and had to cancel my travel due to personal reasons. I have an admit to a better university this year and is in the process of applying for the visa again. Do I have to mention why I had to cancel my visa last time in the visa SOP?

YES, if you won't and they find it from there records, you would get a 5 year ban for misinterpretation.

You have to tell them about any prior visas/rejections/denials, but I don't believe you need to go into exhaustive detail about why you chose not to travel. You can simply say personal reasons.

If you are comfortable telling them a little more, you can do that, but it's not required.

Please guys, is SOP different from Letter of explanation. I'm confused as I'm in the process of submitting my application.
