Hello all,

I am living in Canada, with a valid work permit for another year ending 2017, I applied for a "Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Visitor or a Temporary Resident Permit Holder (IMM5708) ", to get a visa so I can travel to the Caribbean and get back into Canada, but the visa process is taking over 3 weeks now, I thought it should take only 1 week, how can I investigate this issue?

Application/profile status Open
Review of medical results Not needed at this time
Review of submitted documents No additional documents are needed at this time
Scheduling an interview Not needed at this time
Review of biometric information Not needed at this time
Final decision Not Started

Thank you

I don't think you even need that...

If you have a work visa valid for a year, then you just need to apply for a visa to visit the country you are going to. You're not changing your canada status...

Are you going on vacation and will be coming back into canada while your work visit is still valid?

I.e. your work visa is valid until June 2017 but you are going on holiday in April?

Any processing times posted are just estimates. Actual processing times can be anywhere from a few days to a few months. There is nothing to investigate - all you can do is wait.

yes, I am just going away for 1 week, my work permit is valid till June 2017 as you stated.I thought I needed a visa to get back into the country of Canada if I am going to visit another country other than the USA, I went to the USA last week and got back into Canada no issue, but thought visiting any other country need a visa to get back in(I am visiting my home country so dont need a visa there)

You are right, I have a Work Permit and I need a multiple entry visa to come back to Canada. The thing is that I`m from a country that is not visa-exempt to enter Canada, therefore I need a multiple entry visa to come back, my work permit does not allow re-entry (it is even written down on your work permit)

My visa was processed within one week

Sorry - I don't know then.

I was on an working holiday visa which allowed multiple entries.

What does your work permit physically say? Does it say 'Does not guarantee reentry?'

Hey,
I am in the exact same boat as you are. I am on my PGWP expiring next year (June 2017). I got TRV till Dec'16. I have to travel in December'16 and will be coming back after new year so I needed to renew my TRV.

I applied on September 6, 2016 and haven't heard since then. I called CIC helpline couple of times (like always useless) they said your application is on secondary review since Sept 9th, 2016.

Not sure what is taking them so long.

Thank you , this is exactly what I thought, I would need a visa for re-entry coming from a non-visa exempt country . One week was told to me to be the turn around point, not sure why mine is taking so long.

Make sure you selected TRANSIT - less than 48 hours when they ask what is your intention in Canada.

If you selected tourism or visit your application will not be processed and your fee will be reimbursed.

if i am correct it asked me do I have a valid work permit I answered yes.

and I answered I will be staying in Canada temporarily (more than 6 months). That's the same answer what I selected when I got my TRV before.

Thank you , so then this is not the correct form?
Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Visitor or a Temporary Resident Permit Holder (IMM5708)

I dont think I selected transit,so should I cancel the application, or do another one?
