Virtual Landing for Applicants outside Canda

Hi,

This forum has been of great help to me whenever I had any questions about my ongoing application. Thanks to awesome contributors on the platform.
I'm writing here today hoping to get some help and insights from those who were/are in the similar situation as me.

I had applied for PR under CEC in December 2019 [I was inside Canada when I applied, but left the country in Feb 2020], and I received an email from CIC Etobicoke Landings in June confirming if I am in Canada.

The email read:
"Hello,

Due to our office being closed because of COVID 19 we are currently conducting virtual landings.

Could you kindly confirm if you are currently inside or outside of Canada in order for your permanent residence application to be processed.

Thanks and regards,
Case Processing Agent MM"

I replied to the email stating my current location but it's been over 2 months and I haven't heard back from them. I called IRCC to ask about the application to which they say that it is still under process, and can not give any more insights.

If any one in a similar situation has found a way forward from here, I would greatly appreciate your help. Is there anything I can do here or at this time I just have to wait for them to reply back?


Another question I have is:
My Work Permit expires in November 2020. My PR application is apparently still in process. I am outside of Canada right now. Unfortunately due to COVID I have lost my job. So after I enter Canada, will I be able to apply for BOWP?

Any help here would be highly appreciated!

Virtual landings aren't possible from outside of Canada. You have to be inside of Canada to complete a virtual landing. I expect this is why you haven't heard back and why they say the application is still under processing.

Yes, you can apply for a BOWP.

I am in a similar situation as yours. I left canada in Feb 2020 and not able to return before my WP expires.
My WP expired on 15-June-2020 and I was granted PR status directly on 1-June-2020. IRCC did not even sent me an email to confirm if I am in Canada or not. There were instruction given in my COPR document that If you are out of Canada then apply for PRTD. I applied for PRTD and got approved in June but I have not received PPR request till now to get my passport stamped. IRCC left me in limbo, I cant return to Canada since my WP has been expired and on other hand they are not issuing the PPR till now.
did you receive your PR or still waiting? or were you able to return to Canada on your WP?

I haven’t even received my copr. i have just received the email stating they would like to do virtual landing. Even though it is approved they wouldn’t update my application online to say “approved” it still says on going.

after asking few lawyers and consultants i found out that the only option I have is to wait for Canada to open their borders to visitors so I can enter canadian borders and finish the virtual landing.

No I wasn’t able to return back before my permit expired.
I know it is super frustrating but apparently the only option we have is to wait.

why don't you reply IRCC that you are not in Canada? They will issue you a COPR and PPR similar to outland applicants, I believe.
I would have done that if they ever asked me before landing me virtually.

I have already done that, but they don’t do anything. I’ve submitted many webforms and also replied to their virtual landing email but they don’t reply back. Neither do they update my address on the application to reflect the address change. So I guess I will have to wait and also call them on regular intervals to ensure everything is okay with my file.

Yes, you are right they left people living in limbo. They don't have empathy that how people are suffering who lost their jobs and some are separated from their loved ones. I hope that things will sort out for you and everyone out there soon. keep us informed if you see any progress on your file.
