Since they issued your COPR without asking for your passport, it means you are from a visa exempt country and you don't require a visa stamp in your passport to travel to Canada.

If this is not the case with you, and you are a non-visa exempt national, then it is sometimes possible that the embassy made a mistake and you need to contact them asap.
My status changed to decision made but i havent received the copr in the mail yet. If i am in canada at this point what happens? Do i have to leave the country and re enter again?

Aaaahhh that's pure torture!

Today I came home to a notice that I have registered mail waiting for me at the closest post office. Since we are going away on a mini vacation I cannot pick it up until Wednesday evening! That's just cruel I want to know what the decision is right now

Congrats!

We have a similar timeline, our application reached Vienna on January 12 and we received PPR on Monday.
Thanks so much! :D
How did you send your passport? or are you going in person?
I was wondering if I can send it by DHL and then have Vienna return it by registered mail. My brother did it this way and everything was fine.

Thanks so much! Smiley

Do you have any advice on how to send the passport? Reading previous posts some people had to send in photocopies of the first page of their passport. All the letter said was this (see below) and the rest was the nearest VAC centres and finally the address of the visa office in Vienna where the passport should be sent.

"Dear XXXXXX XXXXXXX:

Your application for permanent residence in Canada has reached the final stage of processing. You must submit your passport(s) to the visa office in Vienna, within 30 days of the date of this letter in order to finalize your application.

Please include a copy of this letter with your submission."

I don't think there is any need for copies because they are just going to stamp the visa in the passport. I think you could send it through the VAC office. Where do you live? For me for example, it's going to be much cheaper, more reliable, and faster to do it with a VAC office and the one near me is in Dusseldorf.

My husband is in Serbia so he'll need to pay $60 as a service fee to the VAC in Belgrade and then another $60-$70 for DHL to return his passport to the house. We don't mind paying but it seems like a longer process. In the letter they gave us three options: Private Courier Service, through VAC Centres and Registered Mail. What is the difference between Registered Mail and Private Courier Service?

We are driving there on Sunday, spend the night in Vienna and go Monday morning to the embassy. This is so exciting, we just booked the hotel today :)
It's an 8 hour drive from where we live, but we decided to make it a mini vacation. We're bringing the dog with us as well :D

My husband sent a police clearance on the 30 Sep. And it was the NEW one, since we originally submitted wrong one (our mistake). Today he received the signature that the letter was received on the 15th of October. I am hoping that they will request the passport soon. How long should we expect the request? Status still says "application received".
Congratulations to all that got the PR and good luck to the rest of us!

They just keep it there for 7 days, don't they?
Be careful that they don't send it back to Vienna

It took 13 days for my COPR to arrive in Canada. Try to stay patient. You're almost there ;)

You have to either leave the country and re-enter or you book an appointment with your local CIC office (phone number on your COPR). You have to check the expiry date of your COPR. The waiting time for the local CIC office is sometimes very long and you might not be able to land there. You might have to leave and re-enter / flagpole

It is really great to see so many people get their good news and that it also so often takes less than the dreaded 17 months advertised.

I have another quick question about documents - my wife who is sponsoring me is writing a letter about why she left Canada and why she is only returning now. One of the reasons we stayed behind is that fertility treatment was much cheaper here. She is attaching a couple of Dr. reports and I was wondering if it is OK for us to translate them or do we need certified translations? Approaching the light at the end of the tunnel...before heading into the 17 month tunnel :)

Well... registered mail takes about a week each way plus the time in between the time they receive it to the time they actually send it back to you but I don't know if they can send it to you by registered mail since you have to pay for that in advance. Couriers such as DHL (in Germany at least) they have the service to pay for the return in advance and the express over night one costs 50 Euros each way but it is one day each way, however they don't have the prepaid return service in every country so you should ask. Generally using a courier is a lot more reliable and safer than just a registered mail especially since you're sending an important document like the passport. I have't really decided yet because I'm still waiting but I talked to the post office today and I think I'm going to go with the over night DHL and return. Maybe your husband should ask the local DHL, UPS, and other courier service offices for the best option.
