4-5 years is long time and I know that there are applicants waiting for PR for more than this period. There are new pilot projects which are launched like now its FSW fast track. I would suggest your father to file for PR again under normal class and let it take normal time. In the meanwhile if you feel and if there is another program for which you are suitable and can get PR in a shorter time, then the CHC will give you an option itself to withdraw or continue with current application.

best of luck

The applications are much faster now than they were under the old rules. Having had PR before will not make it any faster for you. I suggest that you finish your studies, then look into what kind of immigration class you can apply under. They may be different after 4 years. To apply as a skilled worker right now, you need at least one year skilled work experience so you may be looking at 5 years before you can apply.

Your choice of profession is not ideal for immigration. A veterinarian is a regulated profession and you may have to undergo some time consuming and costly exams to be able to work in Canada. You may be able to find some information on that here: http://www.cicic.ca/2/home.canada

my father has to file the application and he is also applicable to apply under "University professor" category and has above 20 years experience as a university professor ......... but the problem is that i'm 19 years old now .... so we need to file the application soon and before i turn 21 .......... so we want that the application should'nt get accepted before atleast 4-5 years until i'm finished with my studies ......... for filing the application my father is a preference because he is much more qualified and experienced than me .........what should be done ? and if by chance the application is accepted before 4-5 years time then is it possible to delay the offer ?....

extremely thankful for the guidance .....

Well your father can still go and settle in Canada after your family gets the PR.

Suppose you get your PR before the end of the year and you have 3.5 years left in your Studies. You then land in canada after 1 year, which means you have 2.5 years in your studies and your PR timing starts where you have to fulfill 2 years of residency.

If you move there after 2.5 years from that point, you'd make the 2 year residency requirements. Also you can spend your university holidays in Canada to take the pressure off the 2 years residency requirements.

You can qualify as a dependent child as long as you are single and a full time student so financially dependent on your parents. I think it would be better for your father to apply in a year or two. Like rupeshhari said, lets say you have 4 years left now and your father applies now. Lets say that you all get your PR visa in one year, then you have 3 years left. Let us say that your visa will give you 6 months to land in Canada (usually more) and you go just when it's getting close to expiry to land, then you have 2.5 years left. As a PR, you can be outside Canada for up to 3 years without losing it so you are good.

If you are under 22 at the time the application is received, your age is locked in as a dependent child and you do not need to keep student status but you can still lose your dependent child status if you get married or live in a common-law relationship.

If you are over 22 at the time the application is received, the only way you are considered a dependent child is if you are a full time student since before the age of 22 and stay a full time student until you land as a PR. You can also not get married.
