Hi All

Thanks for your time!

I am planing to do an one year master degree in Canada, and I am wondering if this degree is eligible for me to apply for PR through CEC? Should I change my study plan in order to make it two years long (many masters degrees in Canada are one year long)?

Old CEC requirements did say two years long study duration, but now I can't find it on the official website (CEC-who can apply), please read the information below. Did the policy change?

BEFORE (quite a long time ago)

Last time when I checked the CIC website under the CEC catalog, it indicated that

"students who wish to apply CEC must successfully complete a program of study of at least two academic years at a Canadian post-secondary institution, plus at least one year of skilled, professional, or technical work experience in Canada within ... months of the application date..." (This kind of information also can be found in many related and real websites even now, apart from the CIC official web)

Some people who posted the link (SORRY IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO POST LINKS cic.../cec/graduates) which talks about CEC graduates stream cannot be accessed now, it shows the Page Not Found.

NOW

I just can't find anything regarding international students who do their master degree in Canada and want to apply for CEC, and the CEC website only shows:

the eligible applicants must meet:
plan to live outside the province of Quebec
have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply,
have gained your experience in Canada with the proper authorization
meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing, and listening).

Does this mean 12 months long master students (Not Two Years) also can apply for CEC if other conditions can be met?

Thanks for your help!

Best Wishes

I think as of january 2013, education is no longer a requirement.
as long as you have 1 year skilled experience you can apply for CEC.

Thanks, Kaytea.

I tried to contact CIC office, however it seems that their email contact only serves applicants who's applications are processed.

Read the instructions manual: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp

Well then I suggest you take mine and PPM's suggestions.

By takng two years of Master's degree you will be also eligible for PNP in most of the provinces, which is in my opinion better route to PR than CEC. And also are more sure one. So please consider that before CEC. You can apply for PNP as soon as you finish your studies.
Whereas for CEC you will have to work full time one year in one of the NOC levels 0,A,B. And only after that if everything falls in place you will be granted a pr. And also in many cases they take about 6-7 months before they even reject a file.

So CEC would be a waste of time when compared to PNP. which depends upon the province you are choosing for your masters.
Almost all the provinces have this program. And would be best if you go to a province which actually has that program.
I know Ontario, NS,SAS has it. So please check it.

Thanks

Hi gimmeThatPR

Many thanks for your kind suggestion.

The PNP is definitely the best choice. I have checked Ontario PNP, and according to their official website, the quota of PNP for 2011 was 1000 people and for 2013 is 1300 people. The number covers all streams applicants, and there are at least 4 or 5 streams. I believe the competition will be quite fierce... Thus, probably CEC can be a backup if it applicable.

Thanks for your time again!
