Thanks for the reply. My state isn't very explanatory about state police clearances, so I'm still trying to figure that out.. at least the FBI's seems pretty straight forward. I'm honestly thinking about going through this process using the help of migrationexpert.com. I'm beginning to think that it might be worth it, this all seems very confusing.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
It's up to you if you have the extra cash but the forms are pretty straight forward if you read the instructions and you can ask on here. If you hire somebody, you are putting your future in their hands. You should do some internet research before you pick a consultant so you can make sure you get a good one. IMO when you are doing it yourself, you are a lot more careful to get it right than somebody who is looking at you like just another file.

Well, I really can't afford to pay someone else to do it but I'm just so afraid I'm going to miss something and delay my application. I'm starting to think that going to see him, getting married, then coming home and filing an outland application might be a better idea. It seems to suit my circumstances more and they're generally processed quicker unless I'm mistaken. Plus.. if I'm understanding this, if I receive my PR status then enter Canada I should have no problem entering or beginning work immediately, correct? If that's the way it works that would be best for me, it will be pretty financially straining for me and him if I'm there and unable to work for any period of time.

Edit: Really sorry I keep asking questions, I keep trying to read and do my research but a lot of this stuff is still pretty confusing. Thanks so much for the help.

Sure you can start to work as soon as you get PR and land you apply for your SIN and you can begin your search for employment.. I know it's easy to feel overwhelmed but they make the application so people like you and me can do it without paying a fortune to a lawyer. As long as you go through the steps and fill out the questions and write N/A that doesn't apply to you..include all that is asked for you will be fine.. just breath.. and do it in steps.. then read.. and reread it.. you will be fine.. plus we are here to help you if you need it :)

Thanks again for the replies.. I wonder if I can convince him to marry me sometime between November and January so we can get this process underway. I know he definitely wants to marry me, just as he said it "scares the hell out of me". He's afraid to rush into marriage. He got married in his 20s and it didn't go well and I think the thought of it is just a scary thing for him. I know that sounds bad but I understand what he means by it so it doesn't bother me.

Oh! One thing I'm kind of curious about, if I do receive PR in Canada that doesn't effect my US Citizenship in any way right? Because that would be bad.. :)

No it wouldnt effect your US citizenship even if you became a Canadian Citizen.. :)

I hope things go well in your relationship so you can be united in Canada permanently :)

Just to encourage you, I have always been terrible at reading and filling out forms and such, but, I managed ( I am still waiting 10 months later, but it is in the works).I was shocked to see the fees some immigration consultants ask on the internet. So, my opinion,,I am sure you can work through it all , lots of good help here, and probably save a lot. good luck

Yeah it is crazy what it can cost.. the site that I mentioned has a service where they fill out everything and prepare everything for you, and it costs $4000, that was very shocking to see.

Oh, do you guys think that it will look bad to CIC if I can only show proof of me going to see him and not him coming to see me? I'm not sure if they would be very understanding about my financial situation being a little more allowing of taking those long trips vs. his. It's not that he doesn't want to come see me by any means, he just hasn't been able to so far.

My advice is anything that you think would raise flags in your application address them ahead of time.. explain everything.. better have it out there than them wondering themselves.. :)

Well there s always one out of the two that is usually more mobile ,be it work restraints etc,my wife is from england and we are not rich so we both saved and only one of us could travel once a year and she was more mobile as my work doesnt allow for that much time away so shes the one that always came to canada,
Logic usually would work its way with this point .
