Validity police certificate

Hi all,

I have a clean police certificate of a country where I lived until 2012 (for more than 6 months).

The issue is that my police certificate will be 6 months old when I will submit my PR app and that it would take me 2 whole months to ask for a more recent one (I double checked with the consulate)... I know that CIC asks for police certificates that have been issued less than 3 months ago. But does that include the case where we left a country several years ago?

I left Japan in 2012. Theoretically, having a 3-month old police certificate or a 6-month old police certificate shouldn't change a thing. And I just would not like to delay my PR app only for that...

I was just wondering what you guys thought on this..

Thanks

If you really want to send the police certificate as is, maybe you could at least apply for a new one, and send them a letter of explanation saying you've applied for a new one and will send it as soon as you receive it?

There's no guarantee that they will not send back your application, since you Are supposed to send it in. But you could take the risk, it might not be a huge risk.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that we could add documents again to the app once it is sent..

One follow-up question: if they were to send back my file, does that mean that the process starts all over again (except the sponsor evaluation phase)? Or does it just delay the result for some time?

If that's 1-2 months delay, I guess it's worth it to give it a try!

Thank you

No, you cannot add documents to the app once it is sent. But as an exception, CIC might be lenient with you, seeing as you have a slightly outdated police certificate and are already in the process of applying for a new one. Lately, CIC seems to be in the habit of looking the other way when people don't send in their FBI certificate because the FBI now takes 12 weeks to issue these. But it's technically an exception to the rule. According to the rules, you must send everything at the same time, so if a grouchy CIC employee sends back your entire application, they are within their rights and you can't complain.

IF they were to send back your file, the process starts all over again, including the sponsor evaluation phase. They would send it back to you before the sponsor evaluation phase, and you will not have a place in the queue.

When you send you application again (if they send back your file) all your documents must be up to date - so this would be a problem for you if some other police certificate(s) expire in the meanwhile.

It's a little tricky... so think about if you want to risk it or not. (personally I might risk it and cross my fingers)
