From what i know, CIC needs the police clearance to be issued with less then 3 months before the application is received by CIC.

In my country, for example, the police clearance has a validity of 6 months. But if it would have reached CIC in the 4th month, CIC would have asked for a new one.

That means.....as long as CIC receives it within 3 months from the time of issuance it's valid right? Even if they receive it 10 days before it is 3 months? Thanks

That's not the experience I've had with my certificates.

When i called the CIC hotline in February I had just received our Lebanon police certificate. I asked them if I should mail it in right away and they said not to and that I should wait for the request from the visa office in Manila. They advised me as long as the certificate was valid when i submitted my application or was issued up to 3 months before i submitted my application it would still be valid. If it was issued 4 months before they received my app it would not be valid.

Fast forward to August and they requested my police clearance from Lebanon that was issued in February. I have now sent it in and confirmed with the VO that it is valid.

So it's not from the time they receive the certificate it's from the time they receive the application. Confirmed with both the hotline and the VO when i sent mine 7 months after it was issued.

That is not what CIC publishes. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have lived for six or more months in a row since the age of 18.

The certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply.

If your certificate is in a language other than English or French, send it when you apply, along with the original copy of a translation done by a certifed translator.

Umm that's exactly what it says read it again. it says it needs to be issued 3 months before you applied, nothing about when they receive it which is exactly what i said.

As long as it's issued within 3 months of when you apply they will accept the certificate. i applied in early Feb for sponsorship, received the certificate late Feb (within 3 months of applying) and then sent them the certificate in August when they requested it, the VO also confirmed with me that the certificate i sent in August was still valid as the initial date was within 3 months of my application date even though I sent it in 7 months after i received it. I received confirmation from the Agent on the CIC hotline, his supervisor and the VO that this is the way it works and that it was still valid.

Some background information would be useful to answer this question satisfactorily.
Have you applied? When did CIC receive your application? When was your police certificate issued?

DaveSav - most people include the police clearance in their application, that's why they consider CIC receiving the application the same thing as CIC receiving the police clearance.

We are all saying the same thing, but in different forms :D

Sorry about the confusion here. My application has already been transferred to the visaoffice. I recently received a letter requesting for pcc which I have not submitted with my application earlier. I am assuming that my pcc from Malaysia has been issued a month ago but it is taking time to reach me....expecting to receive it within a month time. With that...as per my calculation I have less than a month time to submit it to the visa office. So I was just worried if my pcc would still be valid by that time.

Yes but it's important to be clear that they aren't the same thing and give the proper instructions

The PCC will still be valid for you as long as it has an issued date of 3 months prior to them receiving your application or later.
