Valid visa in Old passport

I filed my application for Immigration to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Category for our whole family. We received our Canadian visa stamped passports on 05 June 2015.

We as a family have planned to migrate to Canada around mid of Aug. Since my passport is getting expired soon, which will have less than 6 months validity during my travel time, must I renew my passport for migration? If I renew my passport is it necessary that my visa should be transferred to the new passport?

The expiry date of your passport doesn't matter. it has to be valid on the date of arrival and that's it.

If your new passport says something like "This is a renewal (or replacement) of passport # xxxxxxxxx", I believe you can bring both passports, use the new one as ID, and the non-expired visa on the old one. That way you don't have to re-apply for a new visa for the new passport.

Thank you all for the reply.. I read abt ENF 4 ..pg 53..section 13.15 ' valid visa on expired passport'.
It clearly says like what ZINGY DNA say.. but does this apply for PR entry too??
Pls help me guys I'm in trouble booking tickets

PR visa is still a visa. It's just a one-entry immigrant visa... In this regard there is no difference from other types of visas, like visitor, worker etc.

I used to have a 10 year US visa which expired 2 years later than my old passport. When I went to the city hall to pick up my new passport I made them aware of the visa. The officer then told me that due to the visa he would not put an invalid stamp in my old passport since - and apparently this is very important - once the passport is stamped invalid, the visa is invalid, too. He told me to travel with both passports when travelling to the U.S. and to return to the city hall to have the old passport stamped once the visa expires. They didn't forget about it. 2 weeks after the visa expired I got a letter by mail. I then called them and explained that I am currently in Canada but would return to Germany around Christmas. I hence went to the city hall in December, got the invalid stamp on my old passport and that was it. I hope this helps!

I am in same boat. I got my PR visa in June 2015. And I renewed my passport. I am not going to transfer my visa to the new passport. I am planning to travel to Canada in November 2015. I hope everything will go well for you.

Hi,

My passport has no white page anymore and be renewed recently. I'm still in the middle of PR process, already finished medial check, paid RFRP and waiting for the DM. My case is handled by Ottawa office, is it correct that I use below Email address to contact them to renew my passport info? cpc-ctd-ottawa@cic.gc.ca. Thanks.
