V-1 visa to work permit

Hi All, Need little help regarding Work permit.

Situation: My husband's got his W-1 worker visa and my V-1 visitor visa simultaneously (applied from India) from his employer. Valid 2 years from now. My husband in Canada already.
Question: I am working in India but want to travel to Canada with the ability to work in Canada. I am not sure if I am allowed to work with V-1 visa.
1. What are my options: example: open work permit. Any other way possible?
2. What is suggested if I should travel to Canada first with V-1 and then apply for work permit from within Canada. Not sure if that is even an option.

--Spousal Open work permit if you qualify for one (seems your husband must be a skilled worker for this).
Or get LMIA with a Canadian employer (extremely unlikely now) and apply for work permit yourself.
Or get a LMIA exempt job (only select few jobs are in this category).

They key is to get a job offer, and likely a LMIA. Once you get these, and have a valid visa, you can apply for work permit at a Port of Entry.

1. If your husband is working at a NOC A, B, or O job and his work permit is valid for longer than 6 months, you can apply for a spousal open work permit in Canada.
2. You need a copy of his job description, a copy of his work permit and 2 pay stubs. You then can apply for an open work permit in Canada. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-permit-result.asp?q1_options=1i&q2_options=2d

So I checked following link to find my husband's skill type.

It says NOC 2173 and skill level or Type A for Software engineers and designers.

1. Is this the correct way to find skill type?

2. Also would there be any documents required by my current employer in India if I apply for the spouse open work permit?

1. Yes.
2. No. You may wish to get a copy of your job description as it may come in Handy when applying for jobs in Canada.
3. Note if you intend to stay longer than 6 months, you will be required to have a medical.

I had my full medical done in December 2017 when I applied for Visitor Visa V 1. So if I come to Canada as a visitor and then aply for spouse open work permit I ll have to do the medical again?

Hey All,

Wanted to ask when I apply for open work permit online do I have to submit my passport to Embassy again. Or open work permit will be in a form of a document or letter issued by Canada government?

Not sure since current visa status is Visitor will they remove it and put a work permit in passport or issue a document?

Can you please elaborate on the process or steps to get the open work permit for my spouse who joins with me on V1 visa.
I'm in the same scenario as above. I have my W1 visa and I'm of skill level or type A. My wife got her V1 visa initiated by my company and she would like to work in Canada. Would like to know the processing timeline and process involved to get her open work permit

I have similar situation like you. i hope it all worked out for you.
I got the W1 visa while my wife got the V1 visa. my NOC job type is A.
however:
1-is there anytime limit she can stay in canada per visit(for example can she stay a year using V1 visa) - she may need a visitor record, I asked for one at the port of entry and they provided. It had the same date of expiry as my spouse's work permit and it was issued since at that time I would be in Canada for more than 6 months accompanying my spouse.
2-will my health insurance be covering her with V1 visa - If she is a dependent your employer insurance should ideally provide her coverage. But you need to ask your employer. I am not sure about her provincial insurance though. I had 100% coverage by my spouse's employer.
3-could you get an open work permit? If you are a skill type A she should be eligible to apply for an open work permit. Refer to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/permit/temporary/apply.html
