V-1 Multiple Entry for Transit

Hi,

Can somebody shed light on whether a valid non-expired multiple entry V-1 visa (Temporary Resident) can be used just for transiting through Canada?

I am aware that a transit visa is typically issued for transit only purposes at no additional cost but is that still required if I already have a multiple entry visa?
