Interview........
"Decision made": 1 April 2015
I recently visited my local MP's office and asked if I needed to hire a consultant/lawyer for our sponsorship application.
The assistant there told me: "So what is the consultant going to do for you?"
I did not see what the consultant would do. I have filled in all the forms and meet all the requirements.

Before you hire a consultant/lawyer, consider what their job in the process will be. If there any issues that are likely to become obstacles to being issued a visa or if you have language problems; yes, you may need a lawyer.

Otherwise do not insulate your anxiety by paying someone to simply wait on CIC as they do their work!!

we hired a lawyer when my husband sponsored me, it just takes time, and they have nuthin to do with the speedy of your application. We are the one who will answer all the forms and everything all that,, al they have to do is just tell you what the immigrations says or the updates of your file. for my own idea, it is just waste of money.., and it wont help to speed up your application.

Agreed. waste of money unless you have a complicated case or you have no idea of what you are going to do with forms.

a good immigration lawyer will do a good presentation which might help your case. My friend hired an immigration lawyer who neatly collated supporting documents into various sections, put them in file folder with subheadings, wrote very supportive letters for their common law case and overall presentation was very professional. Is it worth it? maybe, maybe not. Because if strong supportive documents are not included it might unnecessarily delay the visa (not deny visa). If someone knows very well how to market and present documents and if the case is not complicated then there is no need to hire immigration lawyers.

So basically, if you are "organized", (and can read and write English moderate to fluently). Do it yourself! The VO will see through any "fluff" included in the application.

yes, I agree! but my husband hate paper work, so he hired immigration lawyer which had costs him about $5000, so now I am sponsoring my son and I did it myself and realize its not easy :) and I takes time only coz we have to forward all the papers to the immigration lawyer then they are the one to send to VO which is wasting of time too! well, if u can read and understand English, better to it yourself, there us guides that will help too!
