USA Police Certificates

Does anyone know if you need a state police certificate to go along with the FBI one? My wife who i am sponsoring has only lived in one state California.

I only needed FBI and RCMP (as I was living in Canada when we filed). I also had only lived in California while in the States.

no, state certificates are not required upfront, only FBI records are. If there is some criminality issue, then CIC may request staterecords at a later date, though it is a very select few who get this request.

did CIC request the RCMP records from you? generally, applicants do not need to supply records for Canada even when they have lived there over 6 months consecutivately. CIC does their own background and security checks, so it is only a small number of people who get a request for RCMP records. normally, they are not submitted upfront.

I can't remember exactly but I believe they did ask for them. I checked my file but I didn't see that particular email right away. I had been in Canada for 4 years by the time my PR finally went through so that could have had something to do with it.
