Hi,

I will be living in Canada on PR soon and working in US. Can I keep my fidelity brokerage account, 401k and Roth IRA and fidelity Go?

Thanks

Fidelity usually let's you keep the brokerage account but you can't actively trade. They let you hold on to existing stocks but as a non-resident you can't buy new stocks. To make cross-border taxes simpler, you can transfer your stocks to a Canadian brokerage without having to trigger capital gains/losses.

I had a similar situation with Fidelity a while back when I moved abroad. They let me keep the account but, like you said, I couldn’t buy anything new, which was a bit annoying. It’s good that you can still hold on to your stocks, but I ended up transferring mine to a Canadian brokerage to make things easier. Honestly, it was such a relief not to worry about capital gains when I made the transfer. Also, totally random, but I’ve been getting into CS2 recently, and I’ve been obsessed with AWP skins—some of the awp skins cs2 are crazy good-looking! Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts!
