USA citizen entering CAN to visit sick grandpa - passport expires in 3 days!

USA citizen needs to travel to Canada for one day to visit family in the hospital. Just realized passport expires in 3 days from now. Will he be allowed into Canada tomorrow for 1-2 even though passport expires day he returns to USA? He can show customs official his return ticket to fly home to USA.

Hard call - impossible to say for sure with such a short passport expiry date. It's quite possible it may not be an issue at all. Also possible CBSA may not be willing to allow him into the country. Dice roll.

Hmmm ok. I imagine there is no issue returning to the USA though. I imagine the return ticket only helps in terms of the officer being able to sleep at night with their decision...

The return ticket serves to help the officer assess your case. It is a good to have, for sure.

Do you have proof that person is sick? If so carry it with you, this is much better than a return ticket.
