Hello !

I will be starting my Masters in Canada from January 2023 (Winter Intake) and moving from the US to Canada for the same. I applied for study visa for myself and open work permit for my spouse and got approval for both (Presently in the US on H1B and H4). I now have the Letter of Introduction and the stamped passports. We don't plan to move to Canada until December but because my spouse has already started looking for employment in Canada, we are keen to collect our study/work permit and apply for SIN. We live about 3 hours away from the Canada border so driving to and fro isn't a hassle for us. I have been trying to figure out the earliest timeline by which we can officially enter Canada but got differing answers- during covid it was 3-4 weeks whereas pre-pandemic some folks moved even 3 months in advance.

As I mentioned, we aren't planning to move lock, stock, and barrel before December but just want to officially present ourselves at a Port of Entry in the next couple of months to try and get the permits, apply for the SIN and return to the US in a day or two. Has anyone traveled to Canada from the US in a similar predicament recently ? How soon before the program commencement can we land in Canada to collect the study and work permit ?
