My wife is a US Green Card holder while my GC is in process. We wish to visit Canada for a week. Her passport is valid until May before it expires.Does she need a renewed passport to enter Canada in the 2nd week of April & return in a week's time?

Since my GC is in process I use an Advance Parole to travel outside the US & return.I intend travelling to Canada by road via Toronto_On my return,at the US port of entry will the Advance Parole document be accepted at US port of entry at the Canadian border? I've traveled to other countries a few times & was admitted without any problems to the US with the advance parole document.

Thanks for your response.

You may need a visa to enter Canada if you're a citizen of countries that need visa. The advance parole is for you to be able to re-enter the US.

She is a citizen of India & as far as I know she does not need to carry a visa since she is a US Green Card holder. My question was actually pertaining to her passport.Does she need to carry her passport? If so will it be alright for her to carry a passport that expires in May.We intend visiting Canada on the 2nd week of April & return in 5 days.

Please reply.

Are you a Canadian citizen? Your wife does not need a visa to enter Canada; just her passport and GC. Probably not. She may be given a VR to correspond with the expiry of her passport.

She may be allowed a short visit but you're here only to visit for a week anyway. But you may need a visa to enter Canada because you're not a GC holder yet.

My experience in the US, is AP doesnt gaurantee you entry back into the US.... only permission to leave without abandoning your GC application. Things may have changed tho, I dont know.
