US Police Clearance: FBI Processing Times

Hi, I just called the FBI and they are currently opening application on December 2nd.
Mine was received on Dec 7th and I was told to call back to check next week.

Just noticed that the FBI will mail the report via First Class USPS and I am afraid it will take weeks for them to deliver to Hong Kong.
Anybody know if I can ask FBI to deliver the report to a U.S. address then I can ask my friend to forward the report to me via DHL?

Is it safe this way? coz I don't want the report got lost in between.... :-X

It doesn't hurt to asked, since you have already send it to them. But am not living in the US, but i use a US address, it was quicker, with no issue.

I called the FBI yesterday again and confirmed that they are ok to send the report to an applicant's friend/ family's mailing address in US.

Thank god! It will be a lot faster for me to receive the report

My prints were received December 4th. Still no charge on our credit card. CIC has requested them. This is making nervous. I really hope the prints are good and that they are processing them this week. Anyone know the number to call and check? Thank you

Hello Cece I was reading the posts on here and saw yours and wanted say that if I BELIEVE (I could be wrong) but there's a difference between Police Certs & FBI Certs ... You can go to your local Police station and ask for them and they'll arrive to your home address within maybe 1-2 weeks or at least that was my experience but as for the FBI it is taking 3-4 Months. I wanted to clarify on that!

But CIC gives you a total of 180 days to submit the fingerprints for FBI so I think that's what they want unless they specifically said "Police certs". But regardless I would go ahead and do both of them at the same time because then they'll put more pressure on you!

There is no difference between a police certificate and the FBI background check in terms of what the CIC will ask for. The CIC wants the FBI background check, not the local police check. The FBI background check is still taking 3-4 months and the use of channelers is not allowed. There's no reason to get a local police check unless the CIC specifically asks for one, which I haven't heard of them doing. They can also ask the CIC for more time if their background check is taking too long, since the CIC is very aware of the long processing times for FBI background checks.

@ Oscar: I have actually applied both. One is the police cert in Hong Kong where I am from and another is a police cert from US (the FBI cert) as I lived in the State for more than 6 months previously.

For applicants from US, I think they only need to apply for FBI cert not the cert issued by the State they live in.

FYI. My credit card got charged last Friday finally!

The credit card is charged when they start the process, but BEFORE the prints are checked to see if they're legible.

If they pass, the letter is usually mailed out within a couple of days.
