Just an update

FBI received ours 12/07/15
FBI charged our card 3/17/16
FBI report received in Canada by mail 3/30/16
FBI report states that fingerprints were processed on 3/17/16 (same as credit card charged)
Emailed to CIC 3/30/16
Now just waiting ....
I'm pretty sure CIC wants the original police report, not an emailed copy. Check their website.

I believe you are correct. I received an email requesting it but it only told me to reply directly to the email with the requested document. It didn't give me an address to mail the document to. So I responded to the email with the scan and asked for address to mail the original. Does anyone have this address?

Email:

I just couriered mine earlier this week.

Hi all,

I have a question regarding my US police certificate. I obtained my FBI police certificate on March 2015. It already expired, however, I have an interesting situation and I thought someone else in this forum might have had the same situation.

On the website, they say that if you are no longer living in that country, police certificates should be obtained after you last lived in that country. I moved to Turkey on August 2015. So, my certificate does not satisfy this condition. I did not get it after I last lived in U.S. However, when I left U.S, my police certificate was still valid (I left within the 6 months after I obtained the police certificate).

Do you think they will request a new FBI clearance certificate from me? Since it takes almost 4 months to get this document, I would prefer starting the process before they request it. Any opinions? (Btw, I am a January 2016 applicant and my visa office started processing my application 3 weeks ago.)

Thanks!

what is your nationality? if it's US, then i would recommend sending the one in you have with your app and applying for a back up JUST IN CASE it's requested down the road.

If you're not a US citizen, then I don't think it matters anymore and they will accept records that are more than 6 mo old. I think the rules have changed slightly on the criminal record validity. i'm sure others will confirm this.

Thanks for the reply! I am not a US citizen. I really hope they accept my FBI police check and do not request a new one. Does anyone know what the changes are to the criminal record validity?

Application received December 8 2015

You will need a new one:

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

App received Jan 4th. 2016
Credit Card hasn't been charged yet
Spoke with them May 31. 2016 and they were processing Applications from Dec. 28th 2015

Hopefully this week they will be working on ours!

I am sponsoring my wife. The sponsorship and the PR applications were sent together and received by the CIC on Feb 29. We have not received any confirmation letter yet, if they are supposed to send one. However, we sent her application without the FBI police certificate.

Now that she received her FBI report, should she send it or wait until the CIC ask for it, since she does not have her file number that she can refer to?
