Yr PHD is indeed acceptable in Canada but it all depends on the job opportunities available in yr field of studies. If u are looking for PHD teaching positions then u need to look into it from the individual unis that are looking for faculty members and any lecturing and research positions available. But from experience here, I can say, personally, that teaching positions are not easy to come by, likewise with faculty teaching or research positions from the tenure view.

Getting PR is different from getting a job, so u may get yr PR but it doesnt mean that u will get a job here in canada, its a whole different story. So it all depends on what u want to do from the job perspective and also depends on where u want to live after u finish yr PHD program.
