With the new forms do you send in the FBI background check right away? Or do you wait until they are requested?

It says you don't need to include it up front and they will contact you with a request for it after they get your application. I already got mine and I'm going to send it with it, as well as my medical. They are still taking up front medicals with new forms until Jan 31st, 2017 - so I'm going to include my PCC as well.

I have been thinking about doing the same

Any decisions coming out of the Ottawa office yet? It has been too quiet! ::)

Just wanted to give my update on this - I heard back on Dec 24th, asking for additional documents (specifically, ongoing evidence of cohabitation with my common-law partner, and refilling the sponsor questionnaire). We submitted this a day later and haven't heard back. The request for additional documents did say that if we didn't submit our documents in time, they would make a decision using the documents that they have within 30 days. I assume this means they would make the decision, either way, in that time! Fingers crossed for the next week or two.

After I got the request for documents, I noticed that my background check started (now in progress), medical is passed. At least things are moving along!

Thank you for the update. Ooooh, I hope I do not get asked for further documents. May I ask what further proof they were looking for? For proof of cohabitation we submitted joint bank statements, joint bills.

Yeah, I definitely panicked when I got the request, but hopefully, it's pretty standard. One possibility that crossed my mind is that now that Condition 51 will be lifted (right?!) they're just looking to be extra cautious for common-law applicants. They were asking for ongoing evidence of cohabitation (i.e. since the time of application), so I included my renewed lease and renewed renters insurance, plus some additional evidence of shared expenses.

How long after the request for documents did your background check change to in progress?

That is interesting. I did not know that Condition 51 was being lifted. Anyways, sounds to me like the docs you submitted were sufficient if they are proceeding with your background check. In all honesty, if they asked for further supporting documentation from us, I don't think I would have anything more than I already provided, so hopefully what I did submit is sufficient. *fingers crossed*

That was my thought too, but looking at it from their perspective - my partner and I reached the 1 year minimum requirement right before we applied, so it makes sense that they'd like to do some follow up. We've been together for five years and I think put forward a strong case for our relationship (we weren't asked for more proof on that front), it seemed to strictly focus on our cohabitation post-application.

Background check moved to "in progress" right when I got the request for additional docs; I saw those changes (and medical passed) simultaneously on Dec 24th, nothing has moved since.

I thought I read that in the new application process for PR, they were lifting Condition 51. I might have totally misunderstood this, but I saw that tidbit floating around, will try to dig that up...

Totally interesting. Wishing you a speedy background check as mine has been in progress since November 18 :'(

Hi Everyone,

How is everyone tracking their progress? Like when people are saying background check is where they're at. So far I have only been able to check using the CIC application status check. I tried linking the application to my account using myCIC, but the application is not found. Is there another way?

Thanks

It took me forever to finally link. I used application number, and place of birth, and # of applicants as 2. Give that a go. Good luck.

Checking obsessively on ECAS & MyCIC at least twice a day.... haven't received AOR1 even though I've linked my application to MyCIC, and it's starting to look like I won't receive it. Will hope for SA by the end of next week... which would have made it a month and a week since application was received.

Hey - please let me encourage you! :) We did not get our confirmation of receipt or our SA until I called into the call centre. I would advise giving them a call to see if they could update you on the status of your application. If you have a UCI number, from a current visitor record/work visa/etc, give them that info so they can look up the details for you.

I hope you get some confirmation news soon!
