Hello

Just need some help here, CIC just sent me an email.

the email says : In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following documents:
Police Certificate: From each country/state where the residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate from the Philippines.

I am sponsoring my wife who is a US Permanent Resident for almost 4 years now. My wife became PR and came to US when she was 20 years old and she's 24 now, so I don't understand why they have to ask for a police certificate from Philippines when she's already PR in US for 4years.

Please help me to understand, i just need an explanation.

Thank you
as the email states, she lived there for more than 6 months since the age of 18, which means she could technically have some sort of criminal record. she needs to prove she has no record in her home country. if she wants to pass criminality and security backgrounds, then she needs to get a record from her home country. this is a basic requirement for applying for PR. this is clearly indicated in the application.

I wonder if anyone knows or can advise me on something. My husband in the US received his COPR this last week and plans to land in December. However he must come to Canada for work purposes before that and is on a super tight schedule. Does he have to do his landing the first time he enters Canada or can he come and go and just do it in December?

Hi everyone - I was about to mail in my application today and I just noticed something that I am not sure of. Instead of taking the risk of mailing in my application, I decided to come back home and double check with all of you and then mail it tomorrow. I figured it won't make much difference of mailing in today vs tomorrow since they will only receive it on Monday irrespective of when I mail the application.

This is my question : I am sponsoring my wife and on her guide in the last point in the document checklist it mentions to include 2 passport photos of her and all of her family members. I am not sure if this includes her only or me and her since we do not have any dependents ( children ). can one of you clarify. if this also means that I need to send my photos, then tomorrow I will take my photos as well and mail it to them.

note : on another form and question it mentions that family members are defined as spouse and children. This is why I realized maybe only her photos might not be sufficient and maybe I need to include my photos as well.

I am really counting on your prompt response (before tomorrow 11 am) since the post office and the photoshop closes at 4 pm tomorrow.

thanking you all in advance for your time and help.

I am the sponsor and I didn't send any passport photos for myself, however they did request them for my husband at the end so we sent them in.

sorry I just noticed your reply now : " I am the sponsor and I didn't send any passport photos for myself, however they did request them for my husband at the end so we sent them in. "

do you think I should send photos of me just in case? or would that be an issue ? i.e would they return my application if I provide photos of me ( which they do not require )

If you are the Canadian sponsor I don't think it necessary for you to send your own passport photos. You don't want to confuse them

as the sponsor, you are not considered a family member. a "family member" is referring to someone who is also listed in the application applying for PR status. these pictures are for the approval paper and pr card. since you are not applying for pr for yourself, you don't need to provide pictures for a pr approval letter or pr card. these letters are generally form letters used for all streams of immigration, not just spousal sponsorship. if there are no children in the application, then only your wife needs to send in the photos.

I exported/imported my car, and while there are many many steps to the process it's relatively easy and it wasn't very expensive. luckily i did not have to make a ton of modifications to my car, so i only had to pay for the daytime running lights to get installed/turned on.

you don't have to import it the same day you land, and it can be listed on your goods to follow form as a conveyance. i would recommend splitting it up, because both are stressful enough on their own. i imported my car on my way back to canada when i went to the states for thanksgiving. that way i didn't have to worry about the 72 hour restriction. if you have something planned in the future, then it's good to consider doing it then.

there are some threads in the settlement issues board on this forum that practically give a step by step guide to how to get it done. again, lots of little steps. since my car is old and not worth much, it was significantly cheaper and easier to import my car.

people need to use a broker to initiate the export on the US side because the documentation system requires a person to be certified to use it. it's much easier to pay someone already certified to enter the information and create the documentation than going through the process of doing it yourself. all other steps to the process are done by the person importing the car, the broker can't do this for you (unless you pay $$$ money).

The car modifications aren't dealt with until AFTER the export is done and the import is initiated in canada. When the car is taken to the designated mechanic for the inspection (usually a canadian tire), the modifications will be done then. other mechanics won't have a clue about what you're talking about, and will most likely refer you to canadian tire anyway. if there's more than one designated mechanic in your area, it's best to shop around because there are some horror stories out there about having to pay $$$ for repairs. i was lucky and only paid $150 + tax.
Hi CDNPR2014, I just got my COPR and am planning to do the landing next week and come back to the US before moving for good. If I am not taking my car while landing, what all documentation would I need for the car? I will be mentioning the car as an item in the list of goods to follow (along with the make, model, registration number and VIN number). Do I need to do anything apart from this (specific to car) since I plan to import the car into Canada at a later stage?

if you plan to import after landing, you don't need to do anything but to list the car as a "conveyance" on your goods to follow form. there is no other paperwork necessary until you plan to import. CBSA probably won't even ask you about it.

I didn't see you get an answer to this.

Yes, He needs to do his landing on his first time into Canada.

actually, no he doesn't. he can come as a visitor, business or otherwise, without landing as a pr. it is not required for him to land the next time he enters canada. the only rule is he must land by the expiration date listed on the COPR. he can certainly come for work, then land when he plans to in December.

Hey all,

I don't use the forums much anymore. However, I helped a friend fill out an application - Outland. She received COPR in 3 months. They never even received her corrected FBI check (she included a letter of explanation and a letter of dismissal from the court, her original FBI check did not show the dismissal). Was a very pleasant surprise. She hasn't even gotten the FBI check and has already landed, lmao.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi I have a question for you. I'm sponsoring my husband and he has a charge from 8 years ago. He had a felony which was dropped to a misdemeanour and spent a week and a half in county jail. On his background declaration he indicated that that he was detained and in jail and also explained what happened. He's going to pay for his FBI check some time this week (we haven't even submitted our application yet). Should we, in the meantime, send his State police check or just give the receipt for the FBI check? Did your friend apply for criminal rehabilitation? Should we do that? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really stressing out over his background

Hi there,

I received an email from CIC just now that my application has been updated (automated email for any updates done in GCKey). I checked both GCKey and ecas for me and my sponsor and there is no change anywhere. Does anyone know why this would happen?

I'm in the final stages here. Doc request August 29, sent what they asked for August 30 and haven't heard anything since then. People that applied 20 days after me have gotten through over two weeks ago so I'm hoping my turn is soon.
