I'm sure I've read posts on the topic of importing your vehicle as part of settler's effects, but am having trouble finding info using this site's search engine. Does anyone have tips for filing on AES to get ITN? My spouse tells me there's a 34-item questionnaire you have to pass to proceed any further? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good customs broker near Pacific Highway crossing in Blaine/Surrey to help us with this?

Here are two posts that may help you plan:
- Process to import your car (aka step-by-step guide). You just need to add registering with AES to that, a requirement after I wrote the step-by-step guide - see the link "Exporting Vehicles to Canada" off of http://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/export-docs/motor-vehicle. Take a look into AES Direct (option 1 at the top left of the page) as it would save you the need for a freight forwarder. People on here have both taken the quick quiz after reading the booklet and had a third party do the AES registration for them. You can see info on AES Direct at http://aesdirect.census.gov/.
- Items to consider as you decide when to import your car (by OhCanadiana)

Thanks for all this. I think we may hire a broker to get the ITN for us, then do the rest ourselves.

Might be the best bet. I actually had applied for an EIN with the IRS when I was planning to do it all myself and then my car died before DM.. lol.. But now It seems to be easier. People are just paying the approximately $35 fee and having the brokers do the ITN part.

This one only charges $35. Worth it IMO

Hello everyone!

CIC received my application on Jan 8,2015. And i checked my status just now and :-X :-X :-X surprisingly i got
" We started processing XXX's application on June 17, 2015.
A decision has been made on XXX's application. The office will contact XXX concerning this decision."

i didn't expect they would start my application until at least October or November! But i still haven't received anything in the mail or email at all. Will that be a good sign?

It sounds like a good sign! Hopefully you will see a large-ish brown envelope from CIC in your mailbox soon. It arrives anywhere from 1-30 days after DM.

Seems like people who applied in 2015 are getting quicker timelines than the ones who applied in the latter half 2014.

Dang...our application was rec'd Apr 2014...On Friday it changed to In Process on 23JUN2015..

Congrats!!! When did he get his DM? I hope I will receive mine next week ;D

My spouse just received her COPR in the mail today! Took 7 days from when ECAS first showed DM for the papers to get to Virginia. This is the first communication we've had from CIC since May 29, when they requested FBI check -- we'd submitted the original in January. We submitted a copy by 3 different methods, along with Proof of Delivery from UPS, later that day. Had I not FINALLY got put through to an operator at the Call Centre on June 17, I'd have been unaware that file notes showed they'd received the original FBI check as of Feb. 20. Best wishes to those of you still waiting from last year. Thanks to all of you who have been so generous with your advice and support. Having access to this forum has made a huge difference in dealing with the emotional stress of this process. Cheers, Linda

To be honest we are not but I'm sure it will still be a while until he receives COPR as he's in the states right now. We were planning for him to come in September to wait it out but now it seems like he'll land before then.. we may keep it at September but now we have an official date and I'm so excited!
