I have a question. We submitted the sponsorship application in August. But my American husband just got a job and a NAFTA work permit :) that is valid for the next 29 months. Do we have to notify CIC? I haven't received AOR yet so I don't have a client code or anything.

Congratulations :)

CIC will probably see that info in their system. However, I would still let them know as soon as you get an AOR or sponsorship approval and have a case number as the rationale for why you are updating his address (which you do need to do).

There is no notification requirement. As Ohcanada indicated, CIC will likely find it (and it means your husband now has a UCI) but it has no bearing on a spousal sponsorship.

Thanks computergeek and OhCanadiana :)

We did state in the application that he was intending to seek a job and work under a NAFTA permit so that should not come as a surprise to them ;) . I'm excited because we can apply for provincial medical services now.

You could have done that once the application was submitted: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/pdf/covering-a-spouse-or-child-who-is-an-applicant-for-permanent-resident-status-in-canada.pdf

I swear that I read somewhere before that if you're applying for a work permit, you need letters of recommendation from each of your employers for the last ten years. Is that the case, or am I completely bonkers?

You may be confusing work permit with proof of experience for Foreign Skilled Workers (economic class PR application).

Sorry it took so long to get back to. I found in process under the applicant. Under the sponsor it says decision made. The information is all under the Sponsor's info when you go to look it up on E-CAS.

why cic keep on changing the forms version. month by month.?
they should make it like yearly or quarterly (whatever suits good) but without any notification they change and then the problem arises for us (the applicants or sponsors..whatever)
we have so many cases for these on this forum

I SOOOO agree Simb. You'd think they'd make a loud banner on the main page that forms were changed or at least regulate how often they change them. It saves work for them as well.

BTW-do I (PR Applicant) need to send in the form that asks that if I'm called for an interview, what US office I'm choosing? Where does it go? I don't see it listed on the Document Checklists.

Yes. I believe they consider it part of the checklist.

Oh, I see now. It's like page 3. I'm going to pray for no interview, but beings I'm from WA state, I'm certainly going to pick Seattle! ;D

And Computergeek, you referenced someone to http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/pdf/covering-a-spouse-or-child-who-is-an-applicant-for-permanent-resident-status-in-canada.pdf stating they could apply once they sent in their application/or rec'd? Is this information specific to BC or any province? I'm going to pray it's for any province. I got hit with a nasty Strep throat and sinus infection over the weekend and beings I don't have ins, the ER wanted $810 to be seen. I left and waited an agonizing 5 more hours to get into the local clinic. Thank GOD they were able to get me in that morning.

Now, our applications sit until I'm well enough to finish/update our forms and get to the post office.

Health care is provincially administered. It varies by province, with Ontario being one of the stingier (you must have PR for outland and AIP for inland apparently) and Alberta and PEI seem to be the most generous (a spouse of a resident appears to be eligible) with BC being a bit in the middle (spouse with a pending PR is eligible.) Check with your provinces health organization.
