Hello,

Has anyone here traveled from Canada to USA then back again, while awaiting PR status? I have a Visitor visa which expires In December 2015 and would like to visit family on holidays. I applied Outland. Just worried, don't want any grief coming back into Canada.

Thanks

I've done it a few times, they just ask me where the file is and how long I'm staying. But every crossing and every officer is different. Reentry is never guaranteed even if you have a PR application in progress.

I've gone back and forth a few times since 'moving' to Canada. I have a Nexus card though, so I never have to talk to a person. I highly recommend getting one!

My US wife is with me here in Canada and we are Sept outland applicants. On March 13/2015 her 6 month visitor stay will expire and I've been trying to download the form to extend her stay but no luck.. I have the updated reader and tried to save as etc, but it just saves a copy of the whole page.. Anyone else have this issue? It's form IMM 5708 dated June 2014.

It seems that your are a U.S. citizen. Since U.S. citizens are visa-exempt, I'm assuming that you have a "Visitor Record" rather than a "visa." My common-law partner also has a VR and we have travelled to the U.S. 9 times since he has been in Canada with a VR. One all of those 9 trips, the only questions were routine things like how long was the trip, purpose of your trip, where do you live (we gave the city in Canada), do you have anything to declare, any alcohol or tobacco. We did get warned a couple of times that the VR was expiring soon and that we'd better get the PR application in and another time that we'd better get the VR extension application in, but there was never a hassle at all.

Before he got a VR, my partner was pulled aside for secondary inspection 3 times. After the VR, it's always been very fast and no secondary inspection. Of course, they can always deny you entry if they have some reason to do that, but you won't have a problem.

Can someone please confirm…
I'm a Canadian citizen, living and working in the USA with my American husband (of 2.5 years). When I submit our outland application, do I need to send the option C printout from CRA? And if not, what do I send instead… US tax forms??

I've tried flipping through some of the pages on this thread to find the answer myself, but it's a looooong thread. Tones of good info though!

Thanks all.

if you are working outside of canada, then you don't need to submit an option c. the sponsor's checklist specifies what is accepted as an alternative. that would be 12 months of paychecks and a letter of explanation. i'm sure you can send your tax returns from the us as well. the reason for the option c is to confirm the canadian hasn't used welfare in the past 12 months or has filed for bankruptcy. since you are working outside of canada, that will be hard to do. your paystubs and letter explanation will help ease any concern of the liklihood that you will apply for welfare upon settling in canada. if you are outside of canada, then it's best to supply as much proof of your settlement plans upfront.

Hey everyone, USA - Canada sponsorship applicant here. I want to pay my RPRF because I applied in July and I want to get it done before they email me and ask me for it. I am just wondering if anyone knows where or how I can send it to them and which is the safest and best way. I have been reading that you can send the receipt through email to CPC-Ottawa but when I called the call centre they said you have to send it through fax or regular mail to CPC-Mississauga only. Just need some advice if anyone can help me :)

when i got my request for rprf, i was instructed to send it to ottawa. to cover all bases, you can send it multiple ways (and I recommend at least doing 2). you can send it by email, fax or regular mail based on the information on your SA letter. as for mississauga, the call center may be able to give you the email/fax number. while i think just sending it to ottawa will work, with CIC you just never know!

From what I heard U.S. citizens doing out land Sponsorship only need the payment receipt from the Application, marriage certificate & it's preferable to have a return ticket this shows you still have ties to the US because it's very unlikely someone is going to buy a return ticket if he doesn't intend to use it.

Why don't you just visit relatives before the expiry and come back as a visitor again?

Expense, no time right now, work etc, and we'd just like to stay together and live our lives while waiting for CIC and not take the chance with the border agents etc.. That's why ;D

I emailed ours to CPC-Ottawa, as it said in their first request email, but when we got delayed past the first deadline they gave, they sent another email asking for a hard copy to be mailed to Mississauga, so I mailed the printout to CPC-M as well. That was the last week of November and we haven't heard anything since.
