Hi,
I see this thread is for those with US visa offices. I have noticed most of the applicants are from the US as american citizens. Is there anyone on here using a US visa office but not from the US? I hate to believe that I am the only one. Please let me know if your case is similar to mine (from a non-visa exempt country, but living in the US under a H1B visa so LA office is my visa office), I'd like to compare timelines with such person.

You may want to post this message on the CPP-Ottawa thread as well as some applicants start in Ottawa and get re-routed to LA

Thanks I guess it's confusing too. Because my application went through Ottawa too but then transferred to LA, and it's LA that requested my passport so I assumed LA would be what I'd call my "visa office".

Plus I just imagined most of the CPP-Ottawa people were inland applicants. I guess I was wrong too.

Is anyone else in canada as a visitor and waiting on any USA office like LA waiting for COPR? I'm wondering how much time it takes for them to mail COPR over the border into canada. It's been a month and two weeks since PPR. I'm from a visa exempt country.

At the same time.

Think of them as the two components you need to land:
(a) you need the immigrant visa counterfoil in your passport for the airline or other carrier to let you on the vehicle (unless it's a personal vehicle)
(b) you need the CoPR for the landing procedure

Neither can be issued until your application is approved.
Thanks. According to the email I got they were "pleased to confirm the completion of my PR", that means approved right? Also not sure I understood your answer "At the same time". Does this mean when I receive my passport back I would receive it with the visa and the CoPr in the same mail? Or would they be mailed separately?

Can anyone explain....I know Ottawa has been processing US applications. I'm applying outland from NJ/NY. When or why would it get sent to NY to be processed or does it stay in Ottawa?
I will also be changing my address in a couple months when I go to stay with my husband as a visitor, so I need to know which office to contact.

Thanks

It will be processed in Ottawa. CIC will only re-route to LA or NY if there are any red flags or serious issues, which is generally not the case with US applicants.

Awesome, thank you! Also, when they request your passport, approximately how long do they have it? I'm going to be staying with my husband as a visitor while the application is in process but go back and forth to NJ to visit my ailing father. I'd hate to not have my passport for a long period of time.

Unless you have an unusual case, they will only ask for a scanned copy of your passport. So you don't have to physically part with it.

Perfect! Great to know...you all are so helpful! I am nervous about leaving NJ to stay in Canada while the application is in process, but I'm very excited too! Getting all my loose ends tied up is nerve racking! I hope this process goes smoothly!

I have a little dilemma: I sent my application to Mississauga on 2/19/14 (No AOR yet though) but.....a few days ago i found out i am pregnant....! What do i do now?! Do i need to contact Mississauga office or wait until it is transferred to Ottawa and get case # assigned to call them? Would that delay my processing by much? I mean, i do plan to deliver in US (my hubby wants a future President of America) but still... What should i do and who do i notify?

Congratulations. I am in a similar situation as my wife is 3 months pregnant and we applied in December. From what I gather, you notify your VO if there's a change in your personal life, i.e. if there is a birth or death in your family. It does not say anything about notifying them of pregnancy.

Like your husband, I want our baby to be born in the US which is very likely unless we become the lucky ones who receive COPR in 6 months or less. I hope this helps.

Once the baby is born, you should update the relevant documents and submit them to CIC. It won't impact your application at all, since the child will be a Canadian citizen.

Even if the child is born in Canada, with an American parent, she or he is considered a natural born citizen under the current interpretation of the law (John McCain was not born in the US but was deemed eligible to run for president, for example.)

The weight of legal and historical authority indicates that the term "natural born" citizen would mean a person who is entitled to U.S. citizenship "by birth" or "at birth", either by being born "in" the United States and under its jurisdiction, even those born to foreign parents; by being born abroad to U.S. citizen-parents; or by being born in other situations meeting legal requirements for U.S. citizenship "at birth". Such term, however, would not include a person who was not a U.S. citizen by birth or at birth, and who was thus born an "alien" required to go through the legal process of "naturalization" to become a U.S. citizen.

Thank you! that just put my mind at ease!!!! We wanted to start trying once i got to Canada and got a job, that way maternity leave would be 1 year as oppose to only 6 weeks in US that i will get..... But hey, we can plan anything we want but things will be they way they were meant to be!!! Congrats to you and your wife on the future arrival of a munchkin!
