Hello All,
I have an Undergraduate degree from the US in 2009. Following that I worked on OPT/ OPT-ext and my 2 H1's. I had applied for my Green Card and went to India because of some family emergency and worked from home. My i140 was approved last year while in India but I am not sure if I'll be able to go back to the States. I work with a consultant and jobs aren't easy to come by. My other issue is the extraordinarily large time to get my green card.

I have worked with multiple large companies as a consultant. My last job was a Lead Software Engineer with big tech firm. Right now, I am helping a startup in India. Since I only have an Undergrad I am not sure what the best course of action is for me. I have been looking at getting a one year PG Diploma in Canada, a Masters is going to be harder since it will clear out my savings. Add to that I just turned 35 this year, I am single (no wife).

What do folks with my background do while immigrating to Canada? Is education the only option? Applying for jobs? Express entry?

Thanks for reading!

your background still has a chance, just a few more hurdles though

Look for IT based provincial nomination programs (Ontario, Saskatechewan, etc.) to boost your express Entry score. Forget about BC as a foreign based applicant.

alternatively outside of Express Entry, there are separate programs for Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.

google and search this forum accordingly but those are the basics.

Many try Express Entry. How many points do you have under Express Entry? That's what will tell you if this is a realistic option or not. Your age is unfortunately not working in your favour. If you haven't calculated your Express Entry points, that's your first step.

Some do come to Canada on a study permit to increase their points. If you want to try this, take a 2 year program (not a 1 year) so that you qualify for a three year work permit. Many struggle to get a full year of work experience in Canada with just 1 year of studies.

Assume you have no chance getting a job offer and work permit.

Given your experience you wouldn’t appear to be a genuine experience if doing a PG diploma.

Depending on what you’re making in India and what your job prospects are especially at some of the large tech companies you may want to remain in India.
