My dad has been married to my American step mom for 16 years and live in the states. They started the process of getting the kids green cards before I or my brothers turn 21. I wasnt given much choice and i didnt understand the rules when they started the immigration process. So i now have had my GC since 2007 and not once have i lived in the US more then a week. I am extremely frustrated that i cant cross the border without lying. I dont want to lie but i dont want to loose my green card because my dad and step mom have spent so much money on getting me it. I have to admit i enjoy that fact i have one, but i just havent had the need to use it fully, not saying that i wont - i definetly tend to use it. But i dont cross the border much anymore because i have to get my dad to pick me up in canada so it doesnt look wierd as i have a canadian car insured to me and a canadian drivers L.

I tend to go to school in Sept for a year long course. Is it a good idea to apply for the Reentry permit before school so when school is done i can use my green card again? I could possibly be looking for work in the US after graduation and i dont want to loose the GC. I would also like to know if i tell them i will be in school in canada and have the reentry permit, can i drive a canadian car across the border until school is done with out any problems? (as i will be living in canada, that should make sense right?)

Argh, everything is so frustrating. I dont even know what could happen to me or my green card if caught in a lie - could someone please inlighten me so i can make some decisions. Please and thank you.

A GC holder can't be outside of the US for more than 365 days or else he/she/it loses PR status in the US. I think that's what princess is referring to since it seems she has been in Canada for over a year or will stay in Canada for more than a year.
