This is great! Unfortunately they requested an interview for me and sent back my passport. I’m unable to get an appointment until Dec 2022 so hoping there is some cancellation for me to get a sooner appointment.

When you say "they requested an interview" how did you get the interview request? Haven't you scheduled a slot already before you were asked to attend the interview? Or were you asked to send documents and then they have sent back your pp?

I was also asked to mail in the supporting documents and passport for B1/B2 renewal and I mailed my documents to US embassy in Ottawa on November 12 and they received it on November 15. I didn’t receive any update since then.

Were you previously having B1/B2 and renewing it now? or you have moved from other type Visa to B1/B2 now?

I had a B1/B2 visa that was set to expire early 2022, was renewing B1/B2.

I booked my b1/b2 appointment back in may 2021 for Jan 2022. There was no drop box option then. Have been waiting very patiently since then for an earlier date.

Called the contact center to see if they can allow me the drop box Option but they said I have to cancel my appointment before I can even know if I am eligible for dropbox. Thats a risk I do not want to take.

So I am keeping my Jan 2022 appointment and hoping they don't cancel it.

Had B1/B2 interview today for spouse and it went well. Just done with interview.
Ottawa consulate.

b1/b2 with interview waiver. Sent an email to ottawa and they reply they processing times are around 4-6 weeks! ‍

I applied for renewal of B1/B2 visa on December 05, 2021. My previous visa will expire September 2022. Here is my time-line so far:-
1) sent passport and supporting documents to us consulate Toronto on December 05, 2021.
2) documents delivered to us consulate on December 07, 2021.
3) ds160 status updated to received on December 08, 2021.
Will let you guys know if everything goes smoothly.

4) Status changed to Administrative Processing on December 21, 2021.
5) Status changed to Issued on December 23, 2021.
6) US Consulate sent the passport on December 29, 2021.
7) Received Passport on December 30,2021.
No additional documents required... Went smoothly. Just took little longer than expected

If you are applying for a renewal of the same type of visa the system will assess if you can wave the interview
