US Citizens Applying for EE

Hi everyone,

I'm curious if there are any other U.S. Citizens here that are applying for EE. I've seen a lot of Residents, but I have a few questions about how the US treats things such as taxes for Citizens holding Permanent Residency for Canada.

That, and I'd really like to connect with a few others going through the same thing as me!

Hello, I'm an American citizen.

As far as taxation, as a US citizen you are responsible for paying taxes to the US government on your worldwide income. Doesn't matter if you live overseas, work overseas, and never set foot in the US.

There are a few things you should investigate: earned income tax credits, earned income exclusions, and foreign housing credits.

Basically, you'll pay your Canadian taxes, and get credit of some sort with the IRS so you won't pay twice.

You will, however, need a skilled cross border accountant to handle these matters.
