I am a citizen of both Canada and the US. I have just moved back to Canada in March. I am hoping to be prepared for any issues next year, so I figured now is a good time to ask.

1. Will I need to file taxes in the US?
2. How will this impact my US social security? (I currently have 12 credits) Does Canada accept credits earned in the US? Does Canada even use a credit system?

Thanks!

1) Maybe:
"If you are a U.S. citizen or resident alien living or traveling outside the United States, you generally are required to file income tax returns, estate tax returns, and gift tax returns and pay estimated tax in the same way as those residing in the United States. Your income, filing status, and age generally determine whether you must file a return."

Also, you might be required to file FBAR, and other forms like 8938.

2) USA and Canada have International Social Security agreements. Yes, Canada accepts credits earned in USA.
