Try boarding a Canada bound flight with a foreign passport and whatever document (birth certificate, naturalization certificate..), you'll be denied. I've witnessed this twice once in Africa and once in Europe with 2 different companies.
No, No. The discussion was admission to Canada using a foreign passport with proof of Citizenship at a Port of Entry. Not about boarding an airline with a non visa exempt passport and proof of citizenship.

Hi all,

So question. I just got my Canadian citizenship certificate (by descent) and have a US passport. What should I present upon entering Canada by air? Is it sufficient to say you're a Canadian and give them your certificate or are you required to have a Canadian passport?
It is best to show Canadian Passport at canada border. However using your US passport and showing your canadian citizenship certificate at the border will suffice as well. Agent may give you a hard time about using your US passport instead of Canada passport but won't deny you as you have a right to enter Canada as a Canadian.

This won't cause any problems for me in the future, will it? I actually plan on applying for a passport from within Canada as it's so much faster and cheaper than applying from the US.
For the people who passed the citizenship test and interview, CIC invited us to the oath ceremony (Mississauga will get all the people who passed in a room and hand out the oath ceremony invite letter on the same day) and told use to bring our PR card so we can surrender it on oath day. Some people expressed concern about surrendering the PR card because they will need it to get back to Canada if they travel abroad. The CIC official said you will need to apply for a passport and you can apply for expedited processing if you need it ASAP. But he also said that if you already have a visa-exempt passport like a US passport, then you can relax and simply use that to get back to Canada until you have time to get you Canadian one.

So yes, you can use your US passport to come back to Canada

No it won't cause any problem for you. You have a right to apply for Canadian passport.

I was able to enter US without any problem using kid's US passport even though they had Canadian citizenship certificate with them. They didn't have Canada Passport.

Once they entered Canada, we applied for passport for them with no problems or issues.

Screech, you mean you were able to enter Canada right?
I was able to enter because I'm Canadian. The kids have Canadian citizenship but only had US passports on hand. They entered without any issues.

Did you fill out the application for your son's citizenship certificate? I'm trying to do this for my son who was also born in the US. Both his Dad and I were born in Canada but we still live in the US and there is no help for us and I have a couple of questions. Just wondering if you might know if we leave the grandparents section blank since we were both born in Canada and what ID is acceptable for a minor? Thank you if you can help!

Since you both parents were born in Canada, the applicant's grandparents does not apply. Just say no to both 8b questions.

For ID for your son, we used US social security card, US passport, US passcard, and US birth certificate.

We used the US passport and US passcard to meet the 2 photo ID requirement. But one US passport ID will suffice.

Hope this helps.

BTW, if you are going to use the US passport for ID, don't forget to include page 27 with the application. You will notice on the US bio page, it says at bottom, see page 27. You will need to show that page too. I had that issue. CIC replied back to me asking me to send copy of page 27. I asked why. They told me it is written on the ID bio ID page of passport. I didn't notice it before.

Thank you so much. I have been very frustrated trying to find a way to contact CIC. I plan to send extra identification and got my son his state id as well for this purpose. I really appreciate the help!

There is actually nothing on page 27 but if there were endorsements they would be on that page. I don't know what the endorsements would be though.
