Hello. My husband and I landed in Canada as PR in 2008 but left the country in 2009 as my husband got a job in the US. I got pregnant and gave birth in US in 2010. We are planning to go back to Canada this July 2011 and settle there permanently and we want to sponsor our child as PR, inland application. I was looking through the details in CIC website for our case but failed to see them. Can somebody share some insights to my questions? Please help...
1. Will there be any problem if we bring our child with us on tourist visa (no visa required for US citizen, right?) and just apply for sponsorship application inland?
2. What guide and forms to use for sponsoring child in Canada? Where to send application?
3. How long is the usual processing time?

thanks a lot.

:D,
1. You can bring your child to Canada as he is a US citizen by birth. Should have the documents.
2. Sponsorship procedure and application kit are available here:

There are no inland sponsorships for dependent children - only for foreign national spouses with their dependents. You will have to apply outland for the child's sponsorship - the application will be processed through Buffalo. Being that the child is visa-exempt, it's probable that s/he will be allowed to come to Canada as a visitor with the rest of the family when you return. At least one of you, though, has to be resident in Canada in order to be eligible to sponsor the child. So probably best for one to come and get established - submit the PR application - and then the other try to bring the child into the country with proof of the sponsorship.

Don't know how long the normal processing time is. CIC no longer posts a separate dependent child processing timetable. Regular spousal/dependent child aps through Buffalo can take up to 11 months.

RobsLuv,

Could you send a link to an official source? I have the same situation. I contacted to Canadian Embassy in Seattle and got an answer that an application kit for a dependent child is the same as for a spouse.
Thanks.

Here is the "sponsor your family" section where you pick the forms for an inland or an outland application:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp#step1 said:
If your spouse, partner or accompanying dependent child lives with you in Canada, use the Application for Permanent Residence in Canada—Spouse or Common-law Partner.
If your spouse, partner or dependent child lives abroad, use the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class.
Note that for the inland application kit, it says "accompanying child". That means you can only sponsor a child inland if you are also sponsoring your spouse. Therefore, if you are not sponsoring your spouse, only your child, you must sponsor outland.

I don't think there will be a problem taking the child to Canada as a visitor if you state your intentions to sponsor it. You can even have the forms filled out and show them as you enter Canada to prove your good intentions. I have never heard of a PR with a visa exempt baby being denied entry to Canada. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that I have never heard of it.

Is Bibe a Canadian citizen? Then the rules are different, as Leon and Steaky explained to me so patiently.

If that is the case, say so and I (or the others) can explain the much-simpler procedure.

Bibe says in the original post that she and her husband landed as PR's in 2008 so they are not citizens. Even if they hadn't left Canada in 2009, they would not have been eligible to apply for citizenship until this year.
