Wow that amazing, someone told me that they will automatically reject if I don’t have pr card. You motivated me I will try soon. Do you have any information about who live in Toronto can apply for interview at Ottawa? Because waiting is around 1 year, but Toronto almost 2 years

You can apply at any office. As you have previously been told having PR is not required to be approved. If applying now it may be harder to get approved without PR given how applications are being evaluated under Trump 2.0. Unless comparing to recent application it is tough to compare to other protected people who have applied for B1/B2 with or without PR. All you can do is attempt to apply and see what happens.

Exactly, thanks

Hi! Anyone with recent interview experience at the Vancouver consulate. Where do I keep my cellphone for a 8:30 am appointment? Are there any storage facilities available with the security? Thanks!

The consulate provides no storage options. You can't take the phone inside the building. Keep your mobile in the car or with a friend.

I’m reading a few experiences where they mention they were allowed to keep their cellphone especially for early morning appointments when other storage facilities are not open. In the H1B forum also it’s mentioned. Has there been a recent change?

Hey all,

Clarification regarding passport submission:

I have a valid B1/B2 visa expiring March 2026. It is on my old expired passport.

I was approved for a J-1 visa in May 2025, expired Aug 2025.

I applied to renew my B1/B2 visa at US Consulate in Toronto. Got invitation to submit my passport.

The instructions I received via email mention:
  1. Current Passport valid for travel to the United States. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the period of stay in the United States (unless exempt by country-specific agreements.)
  2. Passport containing the most recently issued U.S. visa (if applicable).

I know I have to submit my valid passport, but do I also have to send in my expired passport with the B1/B2 visa?

Thank you.

Are you sure the visas are still valid? Many get cancelled once you claim asylum in Canada. You submit your RTD. You can get your home country passport back from CBSA or explain it was confiscated by CBSA when you claimed asylum. If you have any photocopies of your previous passport I would send them in if you don’t have the physical passport.
