Urgently need help

I'm from Egypt, Urgently, I have applied for study permit from 6/6/2013 and until now i didn't receive any response from the embassy and I emailed embassy and told me that "there are waiting for background checks". please can any one tell me what this is meaning and when can i take the visa?

You should ask this in international students section, you will def. get some answers from there.
In my opinion they are doing checks to make sure that you don't have any criminal record.
