ACH scheisse. This is strange that they do not serve Switzerland. I think you don't have any other choice than what you wrote above. I hope you have time to see it through that way.

Yeah, it's absolutely weird that neither France nor Germany vfsglobal post to Switzerland. Even stranger is that DHL, Fedex, UPS etc have no clue about this service. I guess I'll do it the way I planned, just worried not to lose my passport through the whole thing.

LOL. never thought a day would come when I'll regret living in Switzerland but here I am.

Just an update for others who need send copies of their passport to Vienna.

I sent mine via DHL from the Czech Republic. Like others have said, DHL do not offer any return labels or pickup options (I could have used normal Czech tracked post, but wanted it to get there urgently/next day).

I decided to let Vienna VO post it back my CoPR via normal post. I received my CoPR letter 4 days later via tracked postal mail. Really good turn around from Vienna and was happy they posted it back with no issues to a different country.
