URGENT****travelling abroad , should i apply PR card now or later!!!

Hi guys,

I just got my CoPR, now planning to go niagara border and apply for PR card. but also i am going to India by end of march. and most likely i am not going to recieve my PR card as it takes about 2 months.
Now applying of travel document in india takes about month, but i am only going for 2-3 weeks.?

i know one safe option is not to go to niagara , use these documents after i come from india. but it will waste 2 months.?
is there any other options?

You can travel back and forth on landing papers. I see no issues there... do your landing and fly

As far as I know you need to provide your PR card in the airport, but if you drive from USA to Canada, officers in the border would accept COPR instead of PR card.

You can travel back and forth on landing papers. I see no issues there... do your landing and fly

No, you can not travel outside Canada on COPR. You need a visa for that. I would do landing when coming back from India in this case

Oh I thought the question is that he wants to go India after landing thru US. If your landing is already been done and waiting for PR card then I guess you can travel on landing paper. Landing paper is like a temporary PR card

No it's not - this is very wrong advice.

If you are non-visa exempt (which Indian passport holders are) and you want to fly home after landing, then you need either the PR card or a travel document to return to Canada. The airline won't let you board without one of these.

The landing paper is NOT the same as a PR card.

Totally incorrect.

Without the PR card or travel doc, he won't even be allowed to board the plane back to Canada from India.

Check your facts before advising.

Question , when you cross border and come back, do they take all the documents , or what documents they give you when you cross the border. is that paper good enough to cross border again.

You need either a PR card or a travel document to return.

So no - any paperwork you are given when you land is not enough to return.

Unfortunately I don't know how long it takes.

But I can tell you that you will have to apply once you reach India. You cannot apply for the TD in advance from Canada.

in this case, i think better not to cross border, and do landing while coming back from india

But I can tell you that you will have to apply once you reach India. You cannot apply for the TD in advance from Canada.

Scylla am in the same situation. I am yet to do the landing, CIC has my passport. But I would need to travel to Europe in march. Can I leave after i do my landing? My passport still has my work permit which is valid until end of august.

Best is to go to India. then return to Canada and do your landing at the airport.

I will be doing the same.
