No - you can't do this without an LMIA (unless there's something you're not telling us and you have an open work permit).

Assuming you have a closed work permit right now, your new employer will first need to obtain an approved LMIA and then you will have to apply for a new closed work permit. You can't start with your new employer until your new work permit has been approved.

No, your new employer would need to have an LMIA approved before he can hire you. I think your employer may be under impression that the Yukon pilot project (Which use to allow hire TFW without a lmo) is still going. But unfortunately, this program was stopped in Dec last year.

Agreed. Your employer needs to obtain an LMIA and then you need a new work permit before you can start with your new employer.

The process takes about 3-6 months. You can assume it would take around 4 months on average.

Hi there. I currently have a job offer from an employer in Yukon. Yes, there is no LMIA anymore issued for Yukon territory. They are doing direct nomination (Yukon Nominee Program). You should ask more questions from that particular employer. And Yukon employer should provide the forms as most of the forms need to be filled out by the employer. You would need an English Proficiency Test too before your employer can nominate you.

Right now, I am preparing for my English Test. All my forms are signed and notarized documents are ready. Once result of my test is with me, I will mail them all to my employer so he can apply me for YNP. I just hope I pass my english exam :).

I have friends in Yukon, thats why I am certain that this is how they do it there right now. I hope this post is helpful to anyone planning to move to Yukon.

Yes, in Canada employers are required by law to give you a ROE record of employment. Its primarily for claiming EI...

Employment Insurance. Basically government assistance if you are out of work.
If you quit your current job you will get this letter to make it official that you no longer work there, just be careful that you actually have a job to go to.

RabinJi, I forgot to mention that I am under Critical Impact Stream (C&D). Not sure if the process is different from A&B.

My yukon employer doesn't need my release paper at this point. First, Yukon employer will directly nominate you even while you are working somewhere else. What he needs from you are your notarized documents, and the forms signed. Once everything is with your employer, he needs to nominate you to Yukon Nominee Program.... Once that is approved, you need to apply for Work Permit (online or border). I know it sounds different from other provinces. Nomination first before work permit. I have worked in Alberta before, and now I am in Saskatchewan, they are all different from each other... But once you are a provincial nominee already, you need to apply for PR within 3-6months. I think that is the best part of it. You get to apply for PR in a very short period of time.

But again, this is my opinion only based on what I discussed with my employer. If your Yukon employer is doing a different procedure, I am not sure what to advise.

As for me, my employer is not asking me to resign. He wants the result of nomination before he wants me to go there and get work permit from the border. If nomination is approved already, work permit shouldn't be a problem.

Please talk to your Yukon employer. Clear everything. And maybe you better check the Yukon website. I think contact number and email of the YNP office are available in the website. You might want to contact them if you're not sure about your employer.

By the way, one of the documents i included in my application is a certificate that I am currently employed by my employer here in SK. This will support my current work permit as proof of my current status in Canada. But again, this is not a release paper. I am not resigning until I have the Yukon nomination approval.
