hello,

I would love to ask you about contract job. I recently got pretty good offer for 1 year term contract with progression into full time. I was wondering if this experience would count towards express entry , do anybody know ?

Some points to consider:

I am on direct contract so I am not self-employed; I am actual company employee. They pay my taxes and provide me T4 form not AT4 form

I believe this job falls into needed Noc Category

I am on company payroll

The contract is given cause company is unionized and people start on temprory bases until they become members of union.

Would anybody know if this would count as Canadian experience ?

Thank you in advance

Looks OK as long as you work a minimum of 30 hours per week which counts as full time for IRCC and your employer will write the confirmation of employment letter when you have completed 12 months.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer, I am scheduled to have 46 hours a week. It is just one lawyer told me that contract job is not suitable for immigration and I was wondering if he was right about it. Since I am not a contractor but rather temporary employee in unionized work place. Basically, they simple do not want to give me full package of benefits. Therefore I get a contract instead.

Thank you again!

So it is fulltime employment on a fixed term contract.

Yes, as long as it is a skilled NOC...

No, he is not right. Contract employment is valid work experience. However, there are sometimes more challenges for term-limited employment (e.g. in the case of getting arranged employment/valid job offer).
